ODU traveled down to ECU tonight and a really good pitching game at that. Game ends up 9th inning 2 out with Dean Ali (Indian River Grad) on the hill against Nick Thompson (Western Branch Grad) in a ODU3 - ECU2 game. Ali got Thompson to fly out to right field to get the save for ODU. A couple of local boys playin the game!!!

A quick check of the ODU baseball roster revealed 27 players from Virginia including 16 from the Tidewater area. In addition to Dean Ali (Indian River), the roster listed Chris Baker (Deep Creek), Brian Bashara (Maury), Kenneth Belgrave (Rappahannock CC), Dylan Bratton (Churchland), Joey Burney (Gloucester), Kevin Griffey (Smithfield), Brett Harris (Hickory), Phil McCarthy (Great Bridge), Bryan Ramirez (Kempsville), Michael Rienerth (First Colonial), Brandon Shelton (Great Bridge), Shawn Sizemore (Menchville), Brandon Smith (Great Bridge), Ben Tomchick (Princess Anne) and Greg Tomchick (Princess Anne).

Today's Pilot mentioned that Chris Baker had two hits and scored the winning run and that Brandon Smith picked up his fifth win of the season. Ali got the save.

It was a great win for the guys! Pitching by committee and I have to say that both ECU runs scored on a ball that should have been caught. If not caught, only one run should have scored. The wind was a factor. ODU scored 2 on a bomb by Josh Wright and then Chris Baker scored on an error.

As far as the roster goes, next year's recruiting class is basically "out of state" with only 3 from Virginia and so far 2 "walk ons" from the beach.

The series this weekend is against JMU with Friday night being "Flood the Bud". Entry is only $1!!!

Can't wait to see that new player El Gato mentioned....he sounds really good!!!
