Hi, everyone. Would you please share your favorite movies? These days it's dark by the time we get home from work, no baseball, the writer's strike, and I have had enough SportsCenter for a while. Friday night is looking pretty bleak. Our favorites are comedies and action movies. We have most of the baseball standards: Field of Dreams, A League of Their Own, Bull Durham, The Sandlot, Major League. We've seen everything Bruce Willis and Jackie Chan (although I think a movie with both of them would be great!)plus the Bourne movies. We've seen all the old Naked Gun movies, Airplane, everything Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler. The Jerk is another favorite. Last night things got so bad that we asked 2B to bring out his copy of The Waterboy!

I'll recommend a couple for those of you in the same situation:
Mystery Men - vintage Ben Stiller - Mr. Furious and his band of misfits take on Cassanova Romeo and the Disco Boys.
Big Trouble - don't get it if you're offended by foul language or have little ones around. But to us it is hilarious. Especially if you enjoy making fun of Gator fans. Stars Tim Allen. Johnny Knoxville has a small but very funny role.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Just looking over our dvd shelf here are some we have enjoyed:
Star Wars (all), Lord of the Rings (all), Coach Carter, Count of Monte Cristo, Transformers, Remember the Titans, Hoosiers, Anchorman, The Italian Job, Guardian, Shrek (all), The Incredibles, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, Batman (all), Spiderman, The Santa Clause, Jingle all the Way, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Pearl Harbor, X-men.
Here's a second for "61" among baseball movies.

As for comedies...Galaxy Quest, any of the Monty Python's, Monster Squad, Blades of Glory

Generally good movies you may have missed - The Frighteners, A Knight's Tale, Willow, Labyrinth, O Brother Where Art Thou (and I liked Moulin Rouge, too but not really for eveyone...)

Now 2B mom - we never do that in KY! LOL Wink

Some great suggestions above! A movie that I liked last year and bought was "Walk the Line" - the story of Johnny Cash. Also, can't go wrong with all the old "Vacation" movies! An annual at our house is "Christmas Story" - never get tired of seeing it! Smile
Sahara is a great movie starring Matthew McCaunghey, Steve Zaun, Penelope Cruz and William H. Macy. It's a hilarious action adventure about two guys (MM and SZ) who are trying to find a Civil War ironclad in the Sahara desert that went up the Niger River while a DR is trying to find out why people in Africa are dying of a plague.

I know it sounds crazy but it's great and funny. It's based on novels by Clive Cussler and because of this movie I have read almost all of his novels.

I know that is a lot but I swear by this movie.
These are great suggestions! I am making a list and checking it twice. Yes, Sahara is a good one! It was on TBS a few weeks ago when we were at a tournament. And I laugh just thinking about Waking Ned Divine (it's his intestines!). We watched Anchorman this weekend and laughed a lot. Of course, after the warning screen about language and nudity, 2Bdad complained that there wasn't enough of the latter. Big Grin I didn't expect the cameo from my favorite actor, Tim Robbins. Reminded me of a couple of others:
Nothing to Lose - with Martin Lawrence
And a little on the wacky side - The Hudsucker Proxy.

And if you like martial arts flicks, Bulletproof Monk is pretty good.
