I am just wondering as my son is an incoming collegepitcher at a D1 program, what is the exact model of the new ball being used? I am looking to buy some to throw with. My understanding is the ball is close to the MLB ball

It may depend on the conference. Next year in post season play they will be using balls with the current core but lower the seams.
I believe most conferences will adopt this ball to be ready for the post season, but that is not guarantee.

It's not the same as the MLB ball but the seams are similar enough that your son will get the idea by throwing that one.

Per dozen price? About $20 more than current NCAA balls/doz, (per website).
Getting the minor league baseball should be totally fine.
