My son is on his official visit this weekend.  We met with the academic adviser for his program he is interested in.  Questions to ask would be How is work that is missed made up, do you have a tutor that travels with the team, my sons school has mandatory study hall for Freshmen so ask about that, how do you work with players during the season,  be sure to find out if the program you are interested in has morning classes...some of them have afternoon labs that can't be missed.  Baseball is hard during the in season so they have preferential scheduling at his school to ensure they get morning classes so you may want to ask if they have that.

They were asked by many of the advisers why do you want to come to this school so be prepared with a response other than baseball as an answer

It was hot here today so he wore a button down shirt and shorts to meet with school officials, but they watched the team practice so he did change into more casual clothes for that.  He also spent the night with guys from the team and they hung out on campus so that was casual as well. He wore decent clothes for dinner last night and breakfast this morning.

As far as baseball questions...be sure to ask what you really want to know.  They must ask a dozen times if you have any questions for them.  Ask about playing time, if they see you playing the first year etc.  make a list of thing you want to know and ask them.

Ok....I believe it is time for me to apologize to MomofA for my wiseacre remark about the above thread, "What to wear" to a visit.  Obviously it is a valid question and my poking fun and dismay at the idea that someone would dare ask this question on this site has come back to haunt me in more ways than one.

This OP obviously is asking for advice on what to wear to an official visit and perhaps most embarrassing is my son has an unofficial visit lined up in a few days and one of the first things of wondered when I heard about the opportunity for the visit was, "Wow, what do I wear?"  And I'm just the Dad!!

So, once again I humbly request forgiveness from MomofA for my flippant remark in her thread from last month.  Baseball Guy 21 check out the aforementioned thread as it may help.

BaseballGuy21,

You're really wise to use this site as a resource in advance of your trip, and you'll find a lot of insight located in those places already suggested to you.

While you're on your official visit, make sure that you make the most of the casual time you have with current players by asking them all you can about what it's really like to be there and be a part of the team. Anything about the baseball program and school should be considered fair game.

By now, your conversations with coaches and others with some familiarity with the school and its baseball program will have created some expectations for what it would be like to be there as a player and student. Use your time with current players to validate...or modify...your expectations; so that you come away with as realistic a picture of the environment as possible.

Congratulations to you for having earned the opportunity to go on this week's official visit, and best wishes for your success!
