My laptop has been broken (screen) and I didn't think I would be able to report or check in, but I've figured out that I can take my "redneck" laptop (broken laptop and old monitor) and report in. That is if the YMCA has a hookup. biglaugh

We may not win many, but HSBBWeb will be on the road. I'll be the one in the HSBBWeb hat and shirt (when clean).

I'll be looking for those daily scouting reports. Wink

Sounds like a great trip. Your boys will benefit from playing this type of competition. We have 2 district games sandwiched around a game with Halls, then off to Chattanooga the end of the week. Is there any better way to spend spring break than playing baseball? Well, my daughter can think of some. biglaugh

Have fun, and tell Coach Clark hello from me.
I plan on looking you up and watching a few games while you're on your trip to this "neck of the woods". If I plan it right you can buy me lunch! Big Grin
Best of luck to Wes and the team!

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
Thanks all..
We are getting ready to leave and I understand the 1st game against Houston HS will be at 7:00 PM at Houstion HS and not the USA stadium.

Let me think, we may have to face 6'8" John Lalor on the mound and now have him at home. biglaugh

It's a good feeling knowing you're along for the ride. The BeaverPitcher still has his band-aid and Lisa tells me you're in charge of the other "protection". Look forward to reading the play-by-play since we can't join you till Friday in Winchester/Tullahoma. Tell the guys we wish them luck, especially the Highgate boys. But most of all lets hope they have fun and try to learn something. Till we hear from you again good luck and be safe.

I spoke with HiwasseeVol awhile ago on one of "them thar cell telephones". He was cooling it in the Hampton Inn and complaining about how cold it's going to be tonight at 7 when they face Houston.

Apparently none of you websters have come through with your lunch promises yet. Don't wait too long. We don't want HiwasseeVol to go hungry.
Karns loses 11-7 to Houston HS

Baseball America’s #15 rated high school team, Houston HS of Germantown has a stable of quality ballplayers with size. They had their #2 pitcher on the mound tonight in 6’3”/205 lbs. Tyler Watson with 6’4/215 lbs. Gray Avant behind the plate. 6’8”/215 lbs John Lalor was on 1B, 6’4/180 lbs Rawley Bishop at 3B and 6’3” 180 lbs. Will Hogue in centerfield. They have speed in 5’10/ 170 lbs Jason Adams in left field, 6’ Jeff Porter in right field, 5’9”/180 lbs Zach Miller at SS and 5’7”/ 155 lbs John Van Grouw at 2B.

The Beavers fought the Mustangs hard as they mustered 7 runs on 12 hits while Houston countered with 11 runs on 12 hits. Both teams committed 1 error each. The Beavers left 7 runners stranded while Houston left 4 stranded.

Karns starter, Shane Ownby threw 4 innings and was relieved by Clint Fox. Tyler Watson threw 5 innings for Houston and was relieved by Daniel Hill.

The Beavers fell behind 6-0 after 3 innings, but closed to 5-6 in the top of the 4th as they rallied for 5 runs with two outs in the inning. Houston countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-5 lead into the 6th inning. Karns would again close to 7-9, but Houston would add two runs of their own for the final 11-7 score.

Karns would misplay two balls in the outfield during the game as players were confused on calls. These plays along with a controversial no call for a strike out of a Houston batter could have saved more runs. With that said, the Beavers played pretty well in defeat.

Extra base hits for the Beavers were Heath Cheverton 2B. Cale Iorg 3B. Houston had Gray Avent 2B, Jason Adams 2B and Zach Miller 3B. Eight of the Beaver starters hit safely in the game as did Houston.

There was plenty of scouts present and I understand they will be back tomorrow for the game against Bartlett HS.

Nuccio silences the Beaver bats.

After finally meeting Coach Phil Clark of Bartlett and hearing him speak of his young club’s inexperience, we got to see first hand his big sophomore right-hander Matt Nuccio. Matt is a fine 06 prospect who was dominate on the mound for the Panthers. Matt threw six innings for the win and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 12 Beavers.

Karns went from their 12 hit game against Houston to only 3, singles by Alex Henry and Jody Phillips and a 2 run homerun by sophomore Heath Cheverton, his second on the early season.

Karns started lefty Landon Chester who was relieved by sophomore Lee Henry in the fourth inning. Landon gave up 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 and Lee gave up 1 run on no hits with 5 K’s. Karns committed 4 errors while Bartlett had none.

Coach Clark was nice to allow the Beavers to practice on the Bartlett facilities today with the hope of a better outcome tonight against Gerrmantown who is 2-0 in the tournament after a 9-1 win over ECS. I also got to see Zach Cozart hit a HR in the 13-4 Collierville win over Jackson Northside.

The big news on the night was the Houston loss to Munford by a score of 5-3. The winning pitcher was Cody Overbeck and Jason Adams took the loss for Houston.

Thanks to Coach Clark for the use of his field for practice today.

Sixth Inning dooms Karns against Germantown

Karns continued it’s slide in the Lewis Harris Memorial Tournament as they played their 3rd game against perennial baseball power Germantown. Germantown brings a young, but quick club to the field in 2004.

The first inning was a hint of things to come as The Beavers walked the leadoff Red Devil batter, but followed with two fielding outs. Beaver pitcher, sophomore Evan Patterson would then issue another free pass and then a routine ground ball to 3rd base would lead to two Red Devil runs as the throw to 1st is wide for the error. Germantown would add another run in the inning as the Beavers dig a hole 3-0 on the 3 unearned runs in the 1st inning.

The Beavers close to 3-1 in the 3rd inning as Alex Henry scores from 3rd on a throwing error by the Red Devil catcher and cut the lead to 2-3 in the top of the 4th inning as Brandon McKee brings Cale Iorg home on a single.

Karns would then play their worst inning on the season in the bottom of the fourth as Germantown would score 6 runs on 4 hits and 3 Beaver errors and maintain a 9-2 lead to the end of the game. Sophomore Keith Ferguson would replace Evan on the mound in the inning and scatter 3 Red Devil hits to end the game.

The Beavers were hurt by 4 walks, 3 hit batters and 6 errors in the game against Germantown The young Germantown team gained confidence by the Beaver miscues and played well in the win. Germantown goes to 5-2 and Karns drops to 3-5 on the season.

The Beavers head to Millington to play a strong Jackson Northside team in the USA stadium at 4:00 PM before heading to middle Tennessee for the Worth Classic. They need to win this game to take some confidence along with them.

Bizazz,
No, we went for lunch yesterday downtown and they are closed then. We ate at the "Rum Boogie Cafe" on Beal street. Remind me to tell you about the tatoo I saw while I was there. Wink The players enjoyed downtown and the Autozone Park. Too bad Knoxville missed out on something like that.

I saw in the paper this morning that Houston won against Jackson Northside 5-4 in 10 innings yesterday. Houston had John Lalor start, but Daniel Hill got the win. I hope North Side used some pitching! For the Admiral fans, some scouts said Lalor was at 84 on his fastball.

Rumor has it you're enjoying life on the road so much you had Debbie put the house up for sale, or is she just renting your part? The neighborhood is really sad to see you guys go, it'll be hard to find someone that can spurce the place up the way you have.

Maybe I'll see you before you read this. There should be a fair amount of Beaver support for the Friday and Saturday games.
