After a very good and solid spring season my son had hopes like many others playing that he would get some looks. He did have an offer to join a Indy team immediately after the season but passed on it. Hoping to see what else may come around. He signed up to play in a local summer collegiate league here and after his first inning of closing it looked like he would have a promising summer. THEN the second game came around. He just didn't look the same. I could TELL (after countless innings of ball pitched) that his mechanics were just not right. Horrible 2 innings for him. He told me after the game that something was wrong with his shoulder and to schedule an appointment to get it looked at. After a week of x-rays and an MRI he was diagnosed with tendonitis, Grade 1 labrum tear, and something else. I don't think I heard what the "something else" was after I heard the word tear. I knew in an instant hearing that word that most likely after rehab at the earliest that his summer was done. And it was. In the meantime another Indy coach called him about coming to join the team late or even come next season. My son was honest with him and told him about the injury and had completed rehab and just wasn't ready to throw any this summer. He was told to take his time and get back in shape and they'd talk through the fall.

In the meantime of all this happening his college coach had resigned to take another head coaching job back home at a school in his home state of Arkansas. It was a good move for him and his family. About 6 weeks ago after a short search his school hired a new, young, and highly motivated Coach to take over the helm of the baseball program. Fast forward to today and my son was offered (and accepted) the Pitching Coach position. That "pep" was back in his voice. That excitement. He's finishing his Sports management degree this fall and had been wondering/thinking what step he would take next. Always talking about possibly getting into coaching one day. I'm very happy and excited for him and as we all know sometimes just being in the right place at the right time can be all that is needed.

So, in short he may not be playing at the next level (well not yet!) but for now he has an awesome opportunity to do something that could be a huge springboard to bigger things in his future!

Thanks so much everyone. Im just so elated for him and that he still gets to be a part of this great game. I'm not sure he yet understands the HUGE door of opportunity that has been opened to him but, Im sure in time will. What a springboard.

Chef, he will be at Emmanuel College located in Royston, Georgia. Small NAIA school but growing each year and will be soon headed to D2.
