Bottom of the 1st inning, we're down 3-0, we have 2 on no one out. My son looks at me for the sign, as I'm coaching 3rd base. The pitcher is a 10 yr old and still leanring. He gave up a walk and an inflield hit thus far. I simply tell my son (a league 11) to look for something to drive and don't get too anxious. 3 pitches later, I watched my son's first official HR sail over the LF fence. We get in the car after the game and my son wants to call two people...a good friend of mine who was drafted by the Rockies (a while back) and has become somewhat of a mentor to my son, and his hitting coach. I told him he better call and leave a message for his mother first.
"Go show your father that baseball." - Sandy Koufax (this is what Sandy Koufax said to me after he signed my baseball and found out I didn't know who he was. I was 12 yrs old.)
