Marion Jones confesses to steroid use.

I was so disheartened by this news. Frown

While watching part of her news conference, I kept thinking to myslef, " What must she be feeling like inside right now? "

Someone that powerful, that athletic,...

What she has known all this time.
What she has been living with.
What she thought when the medals were presented to her.
What went through her mind with every interview.
What she felt everytime others looked at her with pride.

What she was so afraid others would find out.

I am not judging.
I am wondering.

...and I am saddened.

I'm not so charitable. I think it is appropriate to make a judgement that she lived a lie for years, knowingly broke the rules and accepted accolades under false pretenses.

I wonder a lot less about how she felt than I do about all her competitors who came in second and third in the races she "won."

I was a big fan of hers. She categorically denied what she has now admitted. I have no problem casting a judgement on it.

Well. Was it ever really in doubt? She didnt wear much while competing and training and the physionomy was there to be seen. Look back at the old pictures.

Having said that, do you not remember the times she competed in? Who was not using steroids? Which non western governments were NOT systematically developing and using performance enhancers?
she failed the drug test in 2006 so duh.
You really think she would have even make the olympics with out the help from steroids.

I love how her excuse is the same as Barry Bonds, and got it from the same person mind you.

Real simple to clean up steroids and HGH, you fail the test, your records and career are done. No appeals or anything.Lifetime ban.
They ALL used steroids back then, but a few experimented with HGH. She flat out lied about it, when asked, so respect goes out the window. Isn't Florence Joyner dead, what do you think did her in? The use of the clear was the giveaway, the clear creme was to "clear" the residue. They didn't realize at the time that HGH was not detectable in a urine test but other steroids were. They also switched urine samples by carrying bags around their waists with clear urine, until some bright person came up with the idea to watch them pee in person. Roll Eyes

Saw a great piece on CNN today. We keep blaming the higher forces in MLB. The player's union blocks any type of blood testing, the only way to detect HGH. They explained why you cannot detect it in a urine sample. Interesting.

If you asked all those who "used" in all sports, at all levels, how many would come out and tell the truth. It one of those questions that has a "pat" answer, and then when the shet hits the fan, some will label them as the pit of mankind. Those like Marion Jones that are in the spotlight are asked those questions, the 95% of athletes that don't make it to that level are never given the chance to lie about it.

Rz,
Good point, they all used and most likely the best users won. But they weren't all asked. No one really cares about the last place contestant, only the first. Those that reach the highest award in any sport, with or without help, have more of a responsibility to be honest. JMO.

When asked she lied. She had the opportunity to be truthful and do some good, to try to make changes.

But maybe it doesn't matter and why debate it. I brought my kids up with the idea that you mess up sometimes but when asked be truthful and face your consequences. I don't see that happening in today's society.
