We keep mentioning how you never know who is who and who knows who --- from today's activities I can give you a real extreme example--

I went to my doctor this morning because I wasn't feeling up to snuff---they were not happy with what they saw so they rushed me to the hospital---no problem as it all turned out to be a false alarm as I was neither having a stoke or a heart attack as they suspected--

One of the nurses aides and I got to chatting at the end of my 7 hour visit to the ER and I come to find out that she had just graduated college in December and was a 4 year starter and Captain of her colleges Softball team---turns out a number of our players are and have attended the same school and she was family friends with one of the kids we had there ---she also knew at least a half dozen of the players we have playing in the same region as her alma mater

And like always say --you never know who knows who so always be careful with what you say and names you mention

TR- having spent 2 days in the ER with my 85 yr old father I sympathize with you. Glad to hear it all turned out ok. It sounds like you also got great care while there.

Last year while having my hair colored (bummer...gray hair now), I heard a stylist talking to her client absolutely ripping a local high school coach and some of the players on the team (including their parents). After I finished I quietly told her I heard everything she said and while I don't have a player @ that school she should be careful of what she says. Needless to say she was pretty embarrased and probably will be more careful in the future. Baseball can be a sport with many interconnected people so you do have to be careful of what you say.
TR - Glad to hear you are fine!!!

My never knows story involves a winter league game (e.g. glorified scrimmage) from January 2007. One of the kids on our team who has high ambitions was dogging it, walking on and off the field, playing lazy defense etc. Very noticeable that he was playing with 25% effort - especially on a couple of ground balls that went by him.

I wandered by the stands where the visiting parents were sitting and saw the newly hired A's manager Bob Geren sitting there along with one of the area scouts from the A's. Bob's son was playing for the other team and I am sure that he was there to watch his son play. I am equally sure that the no effort play on the part of this player was also noticed...

You never know...
