Here is another link (I couldn't get thru on the one in your post ... said URL was invalid): Outfield collision
It was painful to watch and am sure we all contiue to wince each time we see it replayed. Hopefully nothing like that will ever happen to any of the boys ...
Kellerdad, As a pitcher's mom, I too have certain fears about the hazards of the game. We discussed a few weeks ago with son the incident with Clement getting pounded by the ball I hope both players are ok. However, this shows a perfect example how players get so caught up in their "work" and forget to communicate. Run the tape by your son, once they see something like that it makes them more aware of the hazards involved and leave an impression.
Kellerdad, While watching a Clemson game on TV, both CF and RF going for the ball, never taking their eyes off of it and collided, worse case that one got the wind knocked out of him the other a bruised chin. Afterwards, son told me the whole team got a lesson on how it should have been avoided. In this particular case, he would have preferred if no communication, both back off and avoided the injury, which would have cost maybe worse scenerio a run, not important lost players for the rest of the season due to injuries. The game of baseball is pretty much the same on all levels regarding hazards.
We had two outfielders collide last year on my son's team. One ended up in surgery to fix a broken eye socket and cheek bone-the other was fine-guess he had the harder head. Luckily our player seems to be fine now and is back playing but it IS scary when something like that happens.
