For those that have been through the recruiting process with kids close in age, have their circumstances ever affected the other?

Have a 2020 and 2022. 2020 is in the middle of the recruiting process. He is a RHP has been in contact with schools on his lift, has some interest, etc. Pretty basic stuff so far.

2022 is a RHP/3B, just started getting some interest this winter based on a jump in mound velo. He is a better ball player than the 2020 for his age. Potential 2 way at a smaller program. Some of the same coaches that my 2020 has been speaking to started asking about the 2022.

One of the big plusses of coaches seeing both kids is if your 2020 is a "good kid" and the coaches like him....feel he'd be a good teammate and comes from a good family...then the 2022 already has all that going for him.   It's pretty early to worry about anything with regard to the 2022 and college recruiting....but it can't hurt to have some coaches already knowing about him.

What made me ask this at all is because independent of my 2020, a few schools reached out to my 2022's coach this winter. But, he hasn't stepped on a HS field yet, I don't even know if he can handle the HS workload and baseball yet.

The workload for a high school freshman and playing one sport is not very difficult to manage. They practice for 3 hours a day max . Assuming he is home by 7:30 every day that still leaves plenty of time to do homework and study. Unless your son is in senior/college level math and AP classes he will be fine. And if he is having a hard time managing the workload then maybe sports should not be in the picture for now.

Coaches reaching out to your freshman son's coach is a good thing and would tell me he is a very good baseball player. Feel free to see what's out there.

I have direct experience with this issue, though it served to the detriment of the younger brother.  My oldest son received an offer from a midwestern mid-major directly from the head coach.  He eventually declined the offer and then later decided not to even play in college.  His younger brother, a 2020, made the visit with him and fell in love with this same school.  So I took him up for two visits last year and he made a strong connection with the PC at their camp.  He was most certainly good enough to play at this school.  When I met the HC for the second time on one of those visits, he was very stand-offish.  And then we eventually heard through the grapevine that they weren't even going to consider him.  Do I know for absolute certain that it was because my oldest turned the head coach down?  No.  But I'm pretty sure that's how it went down.

It all ended fine as the 2020 committed to a school much closer to home anyway, so all good.  Just thought I'd share.

My sons have direct experience with this too, but at the D3 level.  Older son did well enough to start as a freshman so the coaches in that HA league wanted to see younger son at various showcases and tournaments. Really helped him get looks, though he wasn't eager to play in the same league or on same team as older brother.  Has had a hit and miss recruiting season with other HA teams, even with the added attention so is waiting to hear if his ED 2 app pans out.
