Hey guys, I'm new here and I just wanted to let everyone know that this place is a great source for information.

So, I started a network called The Online Scout and my goal is to help high school baseball players, mainly in the Chicagoland area, get their names out. Obviously, scouts are not available all the time so we offer serious students their own channel to the scouts. Each member gets their own website with full functioning photo galleries, videos, bigoraphies, and a section for all their contact information.

So, if anyone is interested, check it out at www.theonlinescout.com and if there are any college coaches or scouts looking, I'd love to hear back from you with some feedback info. Thanks a lot.

Thanks JA and rz. I've been talking to a bunch of different baseball related companies and websites and we're definitely doing a lot of advertising. Right now, we have a few different ad's lined up.

We're really working hard to get this off the ground and we have a lot of scouts and coaches interested already. The main thing now is getting the players signed up...
The question about advertising or promoting in posts comes up from time to time so I thought I would take this opportunity to clarify the policy a little.

Basically the "no advertising in forum posts" policy is intended to protect our members from spam. If we did not have rules against it, we would see many new business owners dropping in to register and post only about their business rather than participating unselfishly in other topics. Soon, a high percentage of posts would be promotional rather than baseball discussions.

This policy truly is about "no spam" ... NOT about "no spam unless you pay the site owner for advertising". I turn down the majority of the businesses who ask about advertising, basically accepting enough ads and voluntary member donations to pay the costs of hosting and running the site. I have not accepted advertisements from websites that offer paid services similar to what is offered here for free. That is not meant as an insult to the new member who started this thread, and I realize there is only a slight similarity.

On the other hand, I DO think it is legitimate and helpful for baseball businesses to post occasional announcements just to let our members know about an event or a new service. If it is useful information for our members and not "spammy", that's great! I noticed the FIRST post of this thread and did not feel that it violated site policies. But beyond that first post, I would recommend to theonlinescout that he just participate here as a regular, non-promoting member. I have a hunch that if he was making worthwhile non-promotional contributions to discussions, some of our members would be curious about his member name and choose to take a look at his profile, where members are permitted to include information about their businesses.

We will probably lock this thread because otherwise it just serves as a continued promotion for the new member, which is not fair to our long-time members who don't use the forum in that way.
