I was home this weekend. I went to see a friend's son play yesterday. Behind the baseball complex is a lacrosse stadium. As I arrived in the parking lot on my bike I had to wait for a busload of lacrosse players to pass before I could cross the parking lot to the baseball entrance. I turned to a couple of parents I thought were baseball parents and said, "These are former baseball players who couldn't hit a baseball." One laughed, the other got indignant. One was a lacrosse dad. I think the truth rubbed him the wrong way.

That's because it was an dumb statement.
LMAO RJM.
It's a shame people everywhere seem to get indignant, rather than come back with a quick-witted retort (the usual response tends to focus on how you don't have to be a REAL athlete to play baseball).
Oh well.
Bulldog. You're taking life too seriously like the guy who reacted. I respect anyone playing any college sport due to the time they put in preparing. But I thought I was talking to two baseball parents. And, it is the truth. The avenue to lacrosse for every kid I know (live in a lacrosse hotbed) is failing at baseball. That's why I thought people here might be amused rather than overreact like you did.
Now ... if you'd have posted this to HSLW.com, RJM?
Yeah. That might be insensitive
Wonder if there is such a site?
LOL, RJM, but at my HS, baseball was for wussies. Lacrosse was what the studs played.
Seriously.
I agree with you RJM, you story made me chuckle. My son calls them lax bros too, and he has friends who play. Kids that think baseball is too hard play lax.
On my original post at the bottom is says "Vote." I didn't place it there. When I log in to delete it, it's not there. When I log off it is there. Does anyone else see the word "vote" in my original post?

I don't see it. Your OP also doesn't have a button for "Like" either but every reply does.
Around here, most hardcore baseball players, it seems, joke that Lax is for failed baseball players.

I love it when that sort of thing happens to me! lol Just think how he would have taken it if you said those were former soccer players who couldn't kick. People are way up tight.
No vote and no like button in the original post on my screen.
Hall of Fame football player Jim Brown was also a great Lacrosse player. I doubt if any of his classmates made fun of him for playing Lacrosse. Not all the best athletes play baseball.
We live in a state where wrestling is big. Some claim wrestling is for those that can't play basketball. That might even be true, but I wonder if the best basketball players would be any good at wrestling.
PGStaff, one of my roommate's in college was a wrestler, trust me I would never say that to his face ....(at the time I think they were ranked second to the U of Iowa)
My son has always wanted to play LC, just not popular on the West Coast. Put a team of baseball players on a LC field and see how they do?
Like button is on the side of the OP.
I suspect one reason for lacrosse suddenly becoming popular in my area is the kids all know their dads (with very few exceptions) never played the game and can't coach, critique, or advise them.
We were at dinner with a co-worker and he said that his son doesn't play baseball anymore because the travel schedule can be brutal and they are always playing somewhere. Just takes too much time... His son plays lacrosse now. One morning he comes in my office and says that they were gone all weekend out of state at a lacrosse tournament. Go figure.
lacrosse has taken off big in my area....one particular little league lost about 40% of their kids to it. My youngest tried it, but has moved on to the "sport of the month"...he just hasn't realized he is a future lefty pitcher...haha...anyone need some barely used youth lacrosse gear????? My oldest and his teammates haven't said much about the LAX guys, they seem to lots to say about the "Crew" guys though!
RJM, while I understand your statement was innocent and wasn't meant to demean anyone, it is hard for some people to interpret this as anything other than a put down to their sport. My daughter had Dhs this weekend. On Saturday, her old TB coach brought over a young lady that he wanted to meet my daughter. In fact, he wanted her to meet my daughter so badly that they stayed the extra 40 minutes after the game as all parents do while our daughters do the ball diamond, put away equipment, and pickup. This young lady is good so I am told and yet, her team has won 1 game in 4 years. (She is a senior with half of her senior year left.) She is beaten down by that program and my daughter's old coach wanted her to meet someone positive that she can text, email, ... to help her make it through her senior year. The most hurtful thing she says she endures is that her school (climate, faculty, ...) looks at the softball program as being comprised of any young lady that can't play so .. er. She said she hears that on a daily basis.
