Just a point of clarification...

Coach Gedro did not retire (from teaching) but he has resigned from his coaching position as the Varsity coach at Hickory.

He gave notification of his resignation to the players and parents last night at the end of season awards ceremony at the school. I wish him luck.

As far as the next coach that is a great question. Maybe somone with a knowledge of how the Chesapeake schools hire their coaches can chime in.

I am afraid however, if Hickory, the AD or the Chesapeake Schools do not make an exception there may be a en masse departure from the school. Word is the AD should make the announcement soon.
Hank played at GB and has college coaching experience at VCU, WCU and Princeton. He pitched Citadel to the CWS and was the career saves leader until it was broken 3-4 (??) years ago. It's not a surprise to me at all. Great hire.

BTW, King's Fork hired Mickey Irving as it's new head coach. Mike is an associate scout with the Red Sox, a former MLB umpire and, most recently, the head coach at Hatteras HS. Another good hire!
Coach Kraft nevr mentioned anything about his career at The Citadel, even after 4 years of playing for him! He is a very deserving coach, knows what he is talking about and I still use alot that he taught me about my pitching and being a person in general.

Looked up and found some archived stats of his from when he was at The Citadel ('89-92) and aside from being now 2nd all time in saves at 29, he still has The Citadel's only win in the CWS after pitching 3 shutout innings in the 10th, 11th and 12th to lead the Bulldogs over Cal State Fullerton.

Also in that 1990 season, to get to Omaha, he helped pitch his team past NC State, ECU and Miami twice in back to back games in the Atlantic Regional and helped The Citadel to a 26 game long win streak that year.

All this info blew my mind about a great coach who I have had the pleasure of knowing for 7 years now. Wish him all the luck out at Hickory!
