A mistake in mechanics/positioning=Bad call. Cuzzi drifted up the third baseline as the play developed. Dumb.
MLB umpires need to continue their education/training in mechanics both on the bases and behind the plate. At least 75% of missed calls are due to mistakes in mechanics/positioning.

I think he was expecting a quality throw from Wright and a collision in front of the plate, and he over-committed. When it became a swipe tag, he was completely out of position.
Surprise is an umpires worst enemy. He didn't let the ball take him to the play.
agreed....and in looking back on the mistakes I have made in positioning, it is almost universally because I did not let the ball take me to the play.....
