My son who is 12 will be playing in a U14 team this fall. We just found out that he will need a new bat. His current bat, which is -10, is not allow in this new league. The min he is allow is a -8.5. Can anyone make a recommendations on a bat? He is 5'3" and weighs 110lb, not sure if this information will help. Thank you.

Easton Stealth is probably the most popular bat right now. He will need a "Senior" class bat. Easton also has an exceptional 400 day warranty policy. Save the receipt and if damaged through use, they will replace it. The Easton warranty department knows my son by name! Smile

Your 12yo son must be a heck of a ball player to be playing on a 14U team! Best of luck.

The Easton Connexion bats are top of the line in my opinion. The lime green ones have a superb sweet spot and the ball absolutely flies off of the bat. And they aren't too much money either Wink

My personal selection came down to the Easton Connexion and the LS Omaha Scandium XS. A teammate had the green one and I loved it, but it didn't feel right on the grip. So I decided to buy what felt right to me, the 04 TPX Scandium XS.

Make sure your son goes to a local retailer and swings a few bats so he can get an idea of what he likes. You don't necessarily have to purchase there, but it will give your son an impression of the different bats.

My son (2005 12u) is a BIG fan of the Connexion as well. His is the black/blue model and looking forward to getting a new (blue/gold) one for 2006.
I am glad you posed this question. I am in the same situation. My son is 12, 5'-7" and 130 but I suspect he'll be much taller by next season judging from his size 13 feet alone. Any suggestions? Also, I cannot afford a very expensive bat...something good but affordable. I don't think range is an issue. He can hit the ball out of the park with his 7 yr. old brother's bat when I throw him soft toss.

It all depends on the type of hitter your son's are:

Power hitters: I would recommend the Stiff-flex Stealth (Black and Lime Green) or the Demarini Voodoo.

Line Drive/Gap hitters: Regular flex stealth (black and gold) or the Demarini Vexxum.

The biggest difference between the eastons and demairinis IMO is that the Stealths have a little better pop, but the Demarinis have longer barrels, thus a larger "sweet spot".

The biggest difference between the 2 stealth bats is that the stiff flex has better pop, but the barrel is 2 5/8" compared with th 2 3/4" regular flex stealth.

not to make it more complicated, but the most balanced bat that I have seen is the Dynasty, very big in midwest colleges this year.

The problem with all good bats nowadays is that the cost is rising, so consider buying last years model or looking on ebay, just some thoughts.
northwoods gal,

Go to a search engine (e.g., google). Put in the search terms: Easton closeout senior league baseball bat

You will want to look for a closeout, not a "blem". Blems don't come with full warranty. Closeouts do.

Take a look at
Don Morton Sports
and
Sport2000

Don Morton has an Easton Connexion SC888 Z-Core 31" 23.5 oz 2 3/4 barrel for $139. And an Easton 2003 Sc777 Connexion 30" 22.5oz 2 3/4 barrel Senior League for $89.

I have no ties with either. Have done business with both and both provided great service.
