This one has been bothering me since Friday. The NCAA issued a statement about the the foul ball call that was not reviewed during the 6/23 Oregon State vs LSU game. They imply that it could have been reviewed.

However, the rules for replay don't seem to include foul balls that hit the fence/wall.

"Baseball 2017 and 2018 Rules and Interpretations"
SECTION 2. Following plays will be reviewable:
a. Deciding if a batted ball is fair or foul. The ball must first touch the ground or a fielder beyond the initial position of the first or third baseman.

The fence/wall isn't defined as part of "the ground", right? OSU coach Pat Casey probably should have asked for review anyway, but could the play have gone to replay?

I see the wall as part of the ground.  If the ball hit the wall then was caught... is it an out?  No.  The base is not defined as the ground either ... but if a ball goes from the bat to the base then up in the air and is caught... is it an out?  no.

Definition...Foul Territory SECTION 36. That part of the playing field outside the first- and third- base lines extended to the fence and perpendicularly upwards.

If fair / foul balls are reviewable....then I think it could have been.  The problem with that is once called foul, play stops.  Fielders jog, lob the ball in... runners stop - head back to prior base.

I can see where umpires will begin to call a close ball fair.. let the play continue, then if reviewed easier to go back to square 1 than determine if a runner will score from 1st... if the throw would have been on line etc...

The walls are part of the ground. However, the intent of the rule isn't to parse that definition; it's to delineate fly balls that are reviewable for fair/foul (balls that where the determination points are past the infielders.)
