The O's have REALLY taken a slide. Being in first place that long and letting the Yankees get back and having the Blue Jays ahead of you will do the trick. Going from first to basically worse (Tampa Bay, I love you to death but wait two more years) isn't going to keep you around. This Palmeiro situation just nailed the coffin shut. Any word on Mazzili's replacement?
I got a newsletter from Orioles.com and they named former bench coach Sam Perlozzo manager. My email says

"On Thursday, the Orioles announced manager Lee Mazzilli was relieved of his duties. Orioles bench coach Sam Perlozzo was named interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Perlozzo, 54, is in his 10th season with the Orioles. He spent his first five seasons as third base coach before moving into the role of bench coach in 2001.

Perlozzo is in his 19th season as a major league coach, having also served on the staffs of the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners."
Yankees need a Pitching coach more so then needing
Mazilli to manage. Joe is still the right man for the job, we need better support staff. Mel needed to retire a few years back.
Vazquez and Weaver are a couple examples of guys who could have done well, I beleive, with the right coach. Hopefully he is gone next year, so he doesn't tweak something w/ W ANG and ruin him.
