mrmom,
"Plus they took a page out of beach baseball and did some recruiting"
Do you have any facts to back up a statement like that? I can only think of one school who has a new player of impact on their team, and he was a private school kid last year who already lived in the Cox zone. So I doubt he was recruited. If I am not mistaken, there were no other moves of significance at any of the beach schools. If I am wrong please let me know what you know.
Once again a topic gets twisted around into a debate that has nothing to do with subject of the thread.
Congrats to Osbourn and Greenbriar for finishing 1-2 in SC. You have made this great State of VA proud and showed that its just not FL, TX and Cally boys that can play. Wish both teams continued success, suspect hear from each in their respective leagues State Tourneys. Good Luck and Congrats for a job well done.
Why is it when a program attracts quality players, it is assumed the evil HS baseball coach/program somehow has the power to coerce some poor kid and his parents into selling their home and moving, or paying thousands of dollars in private school tuition? IMHO, the more common scenario is that a kid and his parents want to move to a successful program...one that they believe will give their son the best chance to play college ball. I mean we need to keep this in perspective. No HS coach has enough power to force someone to move... or is being paid enough to purchase someone's house or pay tuition for a kid...just to satisfy his need for wins or "power". The player and his parents control that. On the other side of that coin, what is a coach to tell a quality player who presents to his school. "Hey, you're not supposed to be here so I'm not gonna let you on the baseball team." Not gonna happen folks.

Congrats to Osbourne. Obviously a very good team. I wish them the best.
Sorry to have offended...obviously recruiting has a negative connotation to most. Not intended just a fact.

The reference was Osbourn had a young team and returned almost all starters. I was just updating those truly interested in knowing Osbourn's true potential that they added two all-district players from other teams.

Kids parents who do move them just to play baseball to me that's HS recruiting. But if it's legal then it's fine good for the kids...not so much the programs they left...but it is what it is.

As far as the beach, I've been on this site 6 years and believe me, there have been many a beach recruiting thread discussed.
A program, that is a good, winning program that produces and showcases real baseball talent by virtue of cumulative results obtained by the coaching staff is what "attracts" players, or most likely their parents, to switch schools. If you wish to call this "recruiting", with all of the negitive implications, so be it.I would bet these are more likely parents who are making career moves for their children to better position them for marketing than high school coaches recruiting. I would be much more likely to point to foreign players showing up on private school basketball team rosters as "recruiting" than a baseball player switching public schools.
SEAN McCauley is the junior catcher from Osbourn. He grew up playing ball with the coach's son, Brett. The families of both boys know Keith and know the program AND had the opportunity to legally move the boys into the school district. Impartial hit the nail on the head, they weren't RECRUITED, they were ATTRACTED. Congratulations to Osbourn, Greenbriar is a quality team and beating them will help prepare them for their playoff run.
