Watching MSU/Miss game. Batter fakes bunt - catcher misses ball completely and ball nails ump directly on the elbow - that had to hurt. I could see the seems of the ball on his arm on my little TV...for the men in blue, I'm glad I dont have HDTV.
I guess I never noticed this before, but blue kept his right arm for lefties, and left arm for righties in front of him slightly below and parallel to the catchers shoulder. Is that proper mechanics? I dont know a better way but it seems you could get pretty beat up being so open.
PS: The pitcher was throwing in the mid 90s
