Tonight at our game one of the asst. coaches for the other team played for me several years ago. After the game we were catching up on old times and the conversation turned to a rules question. I am 99% sure I was right in what I told him but I want to make sure of it.

He explained in one of their games there was a passed ball with a runner trying to score. The pitcher came to the plate and got the ball before the runner scored and laid down the tag but the slide forced the glove off his hand. So now you have the runner on the plate with the pitcher having made a tag but the glove had fallen off and the ball still in the glove. My former player asked me if he was out or safe - I said he was safe because the defensive player never maintained control of the ball and showed possession after the play.

My former player said the head coach of his team got tossed over this. He later said he got tossed because he wanted the plate ump to talk to his partner in the field to make sure of the right call.

I didn't see it but that was how it was explained to me. I am sure I am right in what I said but want to make sure.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. Thomas Jefferson
