Out of position Redux

Runner on First. Takes off to steal second. Catcher throws a decent line but it tails away from SS enough for it to be just out of reach while he is definitely parked on the bag. But here’s the question… 2B is behind the bag by 10 or more feet but completely out of position and cant field the ball either. Ball goes to CF and runner advances to 3rd. I know it’s going to fall on the thrower, but why. For the love of god why? 🤷‍♂️🤯🤦‍♂️.
