My son was told to practice throwing a 4 seam to add carry to his throws from the outfield. We understand the principle, but not sure how to practice it. Meaning, how do you ensure that you have the grip when throwing home. My son told me that he just grabs and throws and that making sure he has a 4 seam would take away valuable time when making the throw. I asked him if he could just glance at the ball, but he said he is looking at the play and would disrupt his rhythm. I hope this makes sense. If it does, any tips or suggestions? Thanks to everyone in advance.

First off, it's most important to just make a good throw. Finding a seam is as easy as just rotating the ball while bringing the ball backwards to load. Practice grabbing the ball without looking at it and find a seam by slightly moving it while loading to throw.
Take a baseball and wrap a piece of colored tape around the ball, so it is going across the middle of the 4 seams. Use this ball when you are warming up everyday. It gives you instant feedback if you are throwing a 4 seam correctly. If you see the tape making a straight line when you throw it then you are doing it right, if the tape is spinning off axis you know you need to correct something. I do this as a pitcher to make sure i generate as much bask spin as possible but it is great for field players as well.
It's a "feel" that thru practice one can tell immediately when it's right.

All position players need to throw with a four seam grip to keep the throw from sailing. Grip the ball in throwing hand, toss it up with spin and "slap" catch it with the same hand. Instantly grip with the two fingers and thumb and rotate until you "feel" the four seams. Thru practice it becomes a correction movement that occurs instantly every time you pick up a baseball.
