Watching a tourn. game the other night and saw this....

1 out, runners at 1st and second. Ground ball 4-6-3 double play inning over and both teams leave the field. Home plate umpire comes out and decided that the 1st base umpire missed the call and the batter/runner in now safe at 1st.

where do you put the lead runner? Put him at third or home?

Oh my what a mess.....

Lets get the proper procedure out of the way....no umpire can "overturn" another umpires call....they can, if asked, supply information that may in turn allow an umpire to change his own call....

But to the OP.....if U2 calls the double play and has any doubt if the first baseman held the foot he then can ask the UIC for a judgement on that issue...then U2 can change his call...

But it seems from the OP as if U2 called the double play and the UIC came out and overturned the call....bad call not supported by the rules....Coach 2709 is right, chances are someone is getting tossed over this call....

If the call overturned is the out call at first, then you would have 2 outs and a runner on first.....the lead runner would still be out....

And a defensive coach in the parking lot after being ejected, and a very heated postgame discussion between the umpires.....

Umpires should only give informational assitance if asked.....then only to calling umpire who then can decide if HE needs to change HIS call....

Im hoping this wasnt HS or higher level baseball....

I think he's asking about the runner who started on second before the pitch was throw. Does he score or does he stay at third. Obviously there's no real answer because this is a butchered play all day long.
The intial OP says nothing about a coach arguing, so I don't know why he's ejected. It just says HU decides to over rule BU.

I think he just hides behind a bucket until everyone else runs out of ammo.

[edit] Missed the obvious point that coach who got screwed would ultimately be the one ejected. If that call goes my way, I'm still calling my boys over for hudle and looking for a stone wall to put them behind for safety.
