The championship game was played last night at Catholic Highschool field. With the rain and storms coming through it as if we would not get this game in but things seemed to work out fine. Cameron Butler got the start and pitched 3 shut out innings and Lynnhaven pitching gave up one hit. Lee Turner hit a solo shot and later Zaine Jack hit a Grand Slam. Final Score Lynnhaven 17 Kempsville 1. Lynnhaven will now advance to Greensboro NC for the Regional tournament this weekend.

Championship? How did that come about? I'd heard there would be no tournament and the regular season champ would advance. Have to say I was disappointed in the Palomino League this year. Way too many cancellation of games and changing of doubleheaders to single games due to a variety of reasons. No doubt that LBB had the most talented team and deserved to advance, but there needs to be some changes made in how this is run. Of the 15 games on the schedule, I think Cox was able to play about 7 and EVERY DH was changed to a single game due to a "lack of players" on the other team, or in the case of the last one, the umpires said they were only expecting one game.
Chris,

It was a championship game, because Kempsville and Lynnhaven were the two top teams.....Lynnhaven with an 12-0 Record and Kempsville 11-1....If Kempsville would have beaten LBB...they would have advanced.

Your right about the Palomino League this year....we had the same problem....I tried to play alot of games and couldn't get teams to play.....because most of the school teams have to much going on.....our league only had three true Palomino Teams......Kempsville, Lakeland, and us...the Rest were Colt Teams playing up or school teams.

On another note, I hear Chris is going to the NABF Tournament from our league.
I am really not a long time area baseball guy like some of you are. But it seems to me that baseball around here, at least, is a bit like boxing with so many different organizations running programs. AAU, Legion, Palomino, and High School teams. No wonder many teams find it difficult to put 9 guys on the field let alone have enough pitching to play a double header. Just too many organizations fighting for the top tier players. Too bad that one organization does not stand out above the others, to which the talent would flow and would provide ample opportunities to compete at a higher level.....does one exist elsewhere?
Your right....it is very tough and I've been very lucky that the players have come to our team the last three years......however, this year was really hard on us....baseball here is always forth or fifth on the minds of the players....behind girls, surfing, jobs....etc......

Greensboro is the best run organization at this level that I have seen......teams there commit a year in advance because they travel out of town (a little like AAU, but the league picks up the tab)...this year alone they took a team to Las Vegas and Virgin Islands for baseball tournaments...
They play 30-40 games a summer including showcases....we are lucky to play ten total before the tournament starts.

We are lucky to get commitments two days prior to the season.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it was probably somthing like that.

As for the NABF, I was considering it, but Chris had a conflict with the Best in VA Camp and I could't get anyone to respond and let me know if it would be ok for him to arrive at NABF a day late. Also never got any details on the team/tournament. I'd still consider it, but I need more info.
This is true we came through the bracket winning our first game against the shockers from greensboro the faced the patriots, this game was a tough loss at 6-4, we then came back through the loser bracket to face the shockers again, this set up the championship bracket between us Lynnhaven and tthe patriots. First game Lynnhaven kept our chances alive by defeating the patriots in 5 innings. 30 minustes later we played the game that counted and was defeated. The patriots did a good job at shutting down the bats and we just fell short on the pitching. I will say that our team showed a lot of class through out the tournament and fought to the last out. With that being said I would like to thank all the young men who played on this team and showed that no matter the score that they came to play to the last out. You guys represented our area well!
