According to the Pony Website the above information is correct, and Houston plays Puerto Rico at 8:00pm. However, I did not hear from Grasscutter (I'm the wife) last night(?!) after the meeting to verify the time. He did tell me earlier in the day that it was rumored that they would play at 8:00pm, and Austin Wright was quoted in the paper as it being 8:00pm. As soon as I know for sure I will update the site!
Daniel Hudson had a 4-hitter through 7. Lynnhaven was up 2-1 in the 4th when a strike-em-out, throw-em-out was executed. Justin Neumann threw a strike to Alex Owen at 2nd and the tag was put on 2 steps before the bag, but the runner was called safe. That run eventually came in to tie the score at 2-2 otherwise game over after 7, Lynnhaven wins. But.......

In the 8th inning Hudson ran out of steam; gave up a lead-off homerun and a single; then Austin Wright came in to relieve. He had 2 outs, runners at 2nd/3rd. The batter hit a fly ball to left field; the ball was dropped and both runners scored to make it 5-4. Zach Woods hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th, but we just couldn't get another run across the bag.

Game at 2:00 pm vs Taiwan, who also lost their opener. pull_hair
Taiwan 3
Lynnhaven 2

(3 rain delays during the game)

Sean Ray pitched a good game, scattered 6 hits; but Lynnhaven just couldn't get the bats going again today. Gave up 3 runs in the first inning and then they were able to hold them after that. Bad time for the bats to go south, but that's baseball! Lynnhaven had a chance in the 7th with runners on first and third, but the players decided to try a play on their own with a double steal and it backfired, with the runner out at the plate.

Lynnhaven plays another team from Puerto Rico tomorrow at 2:00pm- this one for pride only, as they are basically out of the final day of play. Zach Woods gets the start.

Congrats to them anyway for getting that far! rolleyes
clap

Lynnhaven 7
Puerto Rico 2

Lynnhaven finished the tournament with a win. Everyone got in the game today. Zach Woods pitched, scattered 6 hit; Daniel Hudson hit a homer and went 3-4 (5-10 for the tournament); David Lottman went 3-4 (5-9 for the tournament); Sean Ray had his first at bat and had a hit; Dory Fields hit a homerun; and sold defense.

This was a great experience for the players, allowing them to experience international competition for the first time. They had, and are still having, fun, and will return to the States on Tuesday!
grasshopper thanks for a job well done in keeping us all informed of the games. After I left the team in NC it was just hard to call PR everyday to keep up with them.

Billy and the team, you guys did a great job throughout the tournament. Everyone played the game of baseball from day one like a group of professionals and I do beleive we had some fun along the way. thanks for the friendships I made with all of you along the way and those with your parents. You all are a class act and look forward to next season.
Jerry
I want to thank all my kids and coaches, Sam and Jerry for giving everything they had over the past couple of months....what a wonderful ride it was! For the area to finish 6th in the World, against the competition we played, it really says alot for the talent in this area.

It was a great experience for the kids to play against international competition and for them to get a chance to enjoy themselves in Puerto Rico. It was great for me, because I also learned alot.

Hopefully, with alot of the players still eligible to play next year and with a few more kids that would like to experience this, we can make a run at the World Series again next year.

Also, I would like to thank all the area fans that followed us throughout our run. There will be a brief news run TONIGHT on FOX 43 at 10:45pm.
