Fort Worth Paschal's head baseball coach was placed on administrative leave this week during an internal investigation, a school district spokesman said Friday.
Stephen Smith has been head coach since 2004, guiding the Panthers to five consecutive playoff appearances. Paschal currently is 14-6 overall and 4-5 in District 4-5A.
District spokesman Clint Bond declined to say why Smith was suspended Wednesday, saying it is a personnel matter.
Bond said Paschal principal Terri Mossige and Fort Worth Schools district superintendent Walter Dansby said they have worked to assist the team during Smith's absence.
"An assistant coach is managing the team for now as Ms. Mossige and Mr. Dansby made the decision to continue on with baseball season for the school," Bond said.
Smith could not be reached for comment.
Smith, who began the season with a 147-105 career record at Paschal, played one season with the Cincinnati Reds' organization before returning to school.

“I don’t scratch my head unless it itches and I don’t dance unless I hear some music. I will not be intimidated. That’s just the way it is.”

Sorry but I don't believe it is disrespectful to ask when it was all over the papers he was suspended. If FWISD wanted to keep it quiet until he had his day in court then why the press release? No one ever said he is guilty or bashed Coach Smith. Actually I have found him to be one of the better coaches in our district. He scouts year round and knows his competition and from this comes prepared every game.
Who said your being disrespectful? No need to try to put words in my mouth. I just feel that there must be a legitimate reason to keep it quite until, the facts are known. FWISD, had to make the administrative leave notice, they have also choose not to make the accusations public yet, stating in the article, that it is a personal matter, it's their decision, not ours.

Fort Worth Paschal baseball coach resigns amid allegations

Fort Worth Paschal baseball coach Stephen Smith has resigned amid allegations that he made sexually inappropriate comments to a female student athletic trainer.

He was placed on administrative leave April 4.

Smith, who could not be reached for comment, had been head coach since 2004.

The coach had made a comment to a female student regarding her mother during a March practice, according to the district's report. Another coach overheard the remark and reported it to district officials.
Smith told district officials that he did make the comment and said it was an inappropriate joke he should not have made, according to the records.

During the investigation, officials also found that Smith made an inappropriate gesture with a baseball bat, cursed and made sexual innuendos in front of students, allowed students to drive his car and committed other inappropriate behavior.
Smith told investigators he could not recall making the gesture with the bat and that if he used a curse word, he would immediately apologize to students. Smith submitted his resignation last month in lieu of further action, according to the report.

It takes effect at the end of this school year.

District reports and records also said:

A female student's parents told district investigators they were concerned about the amount of time Smith spent with their daughter and about non-school related texts. The student, however, said Smith gave her "fatherly advice" on how to handle stressful situations.

Smith texted students about practice, games and other team-related issues though he did counsel a student as well via texts.

Former female students who helped the team sent district officials letters in support of Smith and his character.
