with only one left at home...it's amazing how much bread, milk, soft drinks and snacks were eaten these past 2 weeks...

I never knew how many were coming to eat or play ping pong or to play pool...

Yeh!!!

They all went back to class this morning...

(and my mom is at my house cleaning for me as we speak...she comes twice a week....hooray! - of course she did take off these last two weeks..smart woman)
Ours returned to college on Saturday after 3+ weeks home. Unlike many of his teammates who "hung out" with their teammates who live in Riverside, he only went to up that way to throw his bullpens. Otherwise, he ... and usually his girlfriend ... were hanging around the house.

It took me a day just to get his room ready to clean ... if you know what I mean. And my big toe is finally healing from having tripped over his size 12 EEEE shoes that always seemed to be somewhere other than on his feet or in his room.

And yesterday, as I was changing the linens and finishing up in his room ... I started crying all over again. I sobbed on his shoulder the day he left ... whimpering to him that I was sorry for making myself look silly with the tears. He goes to college 30 miles away for crying out loud (pun intended). But I noticed that he was weepy, too ... had been feeling a little blue for a day or two at the prospect of heading back to school after a wonderful 3 week "vacation" at home.

Then it dawned on me ... this is a really big year for him and we may only have one more special family Christmas morning left after this one. If all goes well this year, he will probably be drafted in June ... then comes a much anticipated engagement ... either an early spring '05 wedding or a fall '05 wedding (depending on the draft situation) ... and by Christmas '05, he will probably be starting his own Christmas traditions with his wife ...

Yes, a really big year. And so we cried together, just loving being able to hug each other as only a mom and son can do ... and waiting for the year to happen ...

Already I miss him terribly ... and he is only 30 miles away ...

You're so lucky that you're taking the time to "be in the moment" and treasuring these times as they happen. You've all got an exciting year coming up. Can't wait to see what it brings for you! thumb

Wow...Highlandermom...I even miss your son. Sounds like you have such a great family. And crying...it's something I've already been practicing myself whenever I think of BK being 6 hours away next fall.

He's too excited. I guess it's my fault. Hubby and I wanted him to step outside of himself and pursue those dreams...and now...I'm having withdrawals...

Whenever I go into his room, or pick up something of his...I keep thinking...oh my...he can't really be 18....

It seems that just the other day I put a bow on his head and put him beneath that Chrismas tree..he was just 9 days old on his very first Christmas.

How time flies...

I can't imagine thinking of his getting married someday!

Thanks for the comment ... makes me realize I expressed my feelings pretty well.

I had always figured AJ would marry in his late 20's like his dad and I did. But God brought him the perfect future wife while he was in high school ... at the tender age of 16 ... and we welcome her into our family already. She is a part of our lives and has been for 5 years now. Altho "H-Dad" still struggles with the idea of AJ marrying at such a young age (he will be 23), even he knows that all three of us are blessed by this special young lady named Katie (but I call her DIL-eee ... short for Daughter-in-Law; her sorority sisters call me "the mother-in-law"). May just have to invite all my HSBBW sisters to the wedding, heh?

HMom- don't worry about crying- the kids know it's because you luv them!! I'll never forget the year my sister in law DIDN"T cry during the annual thanks at our thanksgiving dinner. The kids were all actually dissapointed- they even wrote in their back to school essays that "Aunt Rita didn't cry this year" - they really enjoyed poking fun at her for it! Sounds like you have a great year ahead! Smile
