People to People Sports Ambassador Program?

Has anyone ever heard of an organization called "People to People"? Has anyone ever dealt with it?

The web site is http://www.sportsambassadors.org/

I received a letter from this organization today. It is addressed to 'The Parents of 'My son's name' "

It says he was recommended to become a member of the "People to People Sports Ambassador Program"

The site has some information, but nothing specific. (like dates or costs) The lack of specifics makes me very weary that this is some kind of scam.

My son was invited. It was like going to a real, slick insurance seminar. We walked after hearing about $6k+ to go.

It may be an enriching experience, but is it an enriching BASEBALL experience? I don't know, but I'd much rather spend $ on camps, clinics, and more GAMES than globe-trotting, at least from a baseball perspective.
Wow! $6K to go. That does seem like a lot. I know it was not that much for my son to go to Australia with that program. Bum, I was curious, you mentioned you left the meeting when you heard the price, at that point, had they explained about the available scholarship money or the different ways to generate funds?
Thanks to all who have helped me out on this.

I called the toll free number they gave for more information.

You can get HS school credit for the trip, which leads me to believe as others have said that his is more about enrichment than baseball.

The Trip costs 4.5K+

We have signed up for the informational meeting, but it conflicts with "Be the Best" Coaching seminar so I don't know if we will make it.
09 Dad,

Actually, money wasn't the biggest issue. I own a health club here in Washington State (don't know why my tag say Virgin Islands!) and my 15 yo son was the #1 starting pitcher (LHP) in Legion ball here and I didn't want him to lose his starts in summer ball..he played 94 games this year, with tournaments in WA, NV, and Idaho, so I'm glad he didn't go to Holland. It may have been a great experience, but is there really anything better than playing ball in the USA?
A friend of mine’s son went to Holland as a member of their baseball team a few years back. He was able to generate some money to help defer the cost but his portion was still a hefty amount. He said the baseball aspect of the trip was very weak. His son did learn a lot about customs and cultures but baseball seemed to be nothing more than a convenient “stage” for this cultural experience to take place.
