I recently received an invite in the mail to attend the Perfect Game South Underclass Showcase in Mckinney, Texas. It costs $549 to attend it. I was just wondering if Perfect Game showcases in general are worth the price? What is the college coach attendance generally like? Is it more for evaluation purposes or exposure purposes? Thanks.

My youngest son attended the very event that you have mentioned last year. Oldest son ended up at a college that totally wasn't on the radar until a White Sox scout at the Perfect Game South Top Prospects showcase set him up with the coach. This showcase takes place at the same place at the same time as the Underclass event. Youngest son plans on attending the Top Prospect event in Mckinney TX this August. So naturally we feel the events at McKinney are well worth attending. The under class event may be more for evaluation but there is plenty of exposure as the coaches and scouts in attendance can easily move from game to game as the four fields all back up to each other. When a pitcher that was a real prospect was throwing everybody went crowding over to watch him for a while. Soon they would split up to watch others. If you are already on somebody's radar, you can notify them that you will be at that event and they may come to see you as well as others.
Yes, because remember, the scouting report will be posted for other coaches to see as well as videos of your son hitting, running the 60, positional throwing and/or pitching. My sons refer to it in their baseball websites as a place for coaches to get an unbiased evaluation. It was just one of the scouting venues we used but I would recommend going this year to the underclass event and perhaps during the summer after his junior year go to the South Top Prospect venue. If he is one of the Nations top prospects he may be invited next June to the Perfect Game Nationals and would probably not have to bother with the Top Prospectsshowcase. They do take some guys for the Nationals out of their Sunshine events that occur about a week before it. The one in TX is usually at Blinn College in Brenham. I recommend it but we each have our own opinion of what is worthwhile for our particular situation. We come from a small high school with no chance of recruiting there for position players.
