Perfect Game Event

It ws kind of weird. My son played in a wood bat Perfect Game event today and it seemed to me that the umpires had it so easy. All the kids could play, made the right play, etc and it just seemed to me the men in blue (actually yellow) had a very easy game.

Coaches who are good, players who are good, nice fields – an Umpires ideal day?????
To our military men, women and families - You are all awesome - that flag is yours and I thank you for the opportunity for giving me the honor of removing my cap prior to every baseball game I see.

IF I recall correctly, at some of the larger events, like the Junior Olympics, and, maybe, the Flordia or Georgia PG events, retired professional baseball umpires are used.

I recall some games being called by an older ump (70's might have been 80's)in the Tucson heat. He was clearly having a lot of fun with the boys including my catcher son.

They were getting those seven inning games finished in and hour and half.

After the last game, the entire team circled up around that ump and had their picture made.

You might have seen a glimpse of a thinning talent pool and witnessed some great umpires impact on the game.

I am often asked if doing college level games is difficult........and to a point they are...the speed of the higher game is the factor that requires the most adjustment....but the level of play and player makes much of the game "easier" to call.........

For the most part you do not see the wide ranges of abilities, errors, inconsitent play that is seen in HS....and most certainly at the youth level......

The difficulty and responsibility in calling the higher level game is adjusting to the speed and the need to be highly accurate from a rules and mechanics front.
