Tell more. Will be there for 18U event in a couple of weeks.
Slugger -
PG provided the link below. Click on "Blog" in the upper right corner for updates, usually weekly but it looks like they missed a week.
Looked nice on website. Scouting towers, video tv inside interesting.
crazy they don't let players take in own drink jugs. Do they check bags/purses coming in?
looking forward to playing there in July, just hope weather is good.
We're there in a few weeks. I guess I don't mind the "no drinks" policy....assuming they have water in the dugouts. If not, then that's a ridiculous policy. The teams pay plenty to play there...being forced to buy concession stand drinks is crazy.
Overall it's a nice place. Plus we just run ruled the team we played so that's a plus
I have been at LakePoint the past couple days. We have addressed the water issue.
People need to keep in mind that PG leases the facility. There are some things beyond our control. However water is something we needed to take care of and the LP officials agreed.
Also, by the time everything is done, well over $50 million to build the entire facility. 8 fields this year and 8 more scheduled for next year. I hope those that spend time there can take in a night game. The lights are special! In fact, these Musco LED lights are not in any other facility in the world. The Shaw turf is also the first of it's kind.
I think people are going to really like the place.
PG....thanks for the update. You guys always run first class events....not surprised that you took care of this issue so quickly. See you in July for the 17U WWBA....I'll only make it for a couple days...but my son and his teammates are really looking forward to it.
Congratulations, Jerry. That facility is an amazing accomplishment.
I know this will be a topic here once in awhile. I'm sure we will be making a lot of adjustments as we go along. Hoping many get a chance to see the place, especially at night.
With anything new there is a learning curve. If those that have been there have any suggestions or ideas, please feel free to share. Just remember our order of importance.
#1 - The Players
#2 - The Teams
#3 - College Recruiters and MLB Scouts
Thanks
We played there yesterday (won the 'ship, whoo-hoo!) The place is amazing. Had several staff members ask for suggestions but couldn't think of any at the time. Now it's the next day and I've come up with a few.
1. Signs with the field number as you approach the field. They are listed very small on the bottom of the scoreboard but nobody I talked to could see it from the stands. Fine for now with only four fields, but as more are built might be helpful.
2. A third row of seats. For the early games there was enough seating but some of the games could have used more seating. Plenty of room for another row.
3. There is a huge (probably > 16") dropoff between from the second row down to the first. Some sections had a step, there was at least one that didn't. I understand why there wasn't a step, there was an electrical outlet there, but a little heads up would be nice. Even just a yellow stripe on the edge. I saw several people take an awkward step off of it, myself included. Might save someone an ankle or a lawsuit.
4. A entrance sign on Hwy 41. We left for a little while to eat and went out Old Allatoona Rd to 41 South. Upon returning you cannot get back to Old Allatoona due to the road being closed but by the time you find out you've already passed the park entrance causing you to go up a ways to turn around. I won't make this mistake again but there will be many first timers that will.
All that being said, it is a truly amazing facility. We are very lucky to have such a facility so close. Hope I don't come off as nit-picky, but just trying to help.
Turf fields..?? What kind of heat is bouncing off the turf in July..??
120--125 degree's...
We play down in myrtle beach, SC one year and the turf was hot for those kids..
staff would come by to read the heat index of 120 in July.
My son's team is also headed down to ATL for 17U games. looking forward to the event...should be a good time.. heat or no heat, I'm staying in the kitchen...

From the LakePoint website:
"The fields will also be equipped with brand new HydroChill turf technology, which will enable them to maintain temperatures more than 50 degrees cooler than normal synthetic turf fields."
Also, so far players are allowed to wear cleats, which a lot of turf fields don't allow.

PG,
My son's HS team played in the 18U tournament last week at LP. WOW. Love the fields. The entire facility is first rate. From the wake boarding to the beach volleyball to the soccer fields. It's something to behold. We've told our coach we'd love to come back next year. Can't wait to see the other pods when they are finished.
Someone else mentioned the fields in July. Yeah, the players will be hot.The fans will be fine in the chairback seats and shade though. The turf is quick, but I expected that. The fences I thought were fair. Not set up for a lot of HRs, but HRs could be hit. Loved the cages and bullpens where they were and how easily each team access to their own.
The only negative I heard was about the turf mounds. You kind of answered that with the fact that PG leases the facility. Dirt mounds are more difficult to maintain.
Regardless, from someone that has been there, IMPRESSIVE.
ETA, Thanks Tx-Husker.
Dang, they waterboard you to play there? Did you forget your passports?

What type of shoes are recommended for pitchers on the turf then?
They recommend molded spikes. These mounds are identical to several DI College fields.
