Big difference in advisors & agents! Kevin also advises my son

BBmaw: No need to verify touchin99, you got it from the horses mouth. Wink

And I understand completely the difference between an advisor and an agent, no need to read the guidelines. Kevin Hubbard was Paul Kelley's advisor as well. As soon as he was drafted I guess someone waved a majic wand and BOOM...turned him into an agent. Big Grin

I'll tell you this much. If my kid gets drafted the only one that'll be advising him will be me! We played with a couple of guys this summer that have draft potential and the "advisors" were on them like leeches. This "advisor/agent" guy ya'll mention here was one of them. No thanks. I'd rather him enjoy his last year of being a high school kid than have thirty guys blowing sunshine at him every day just so they can get a piece of the pie. It's disgusting.

To DP and Texan:

Talking about advisors and agents as you both do only raises RED FLAGS for the NCAA and trust me they read this site as do a load of college coaches and scouts.

I realize you are in Texas where everything is big but you don't need to have big mouths and put kids in a precarious position with your statements
TRhit;

If you think my post is blowing the lid off the the whole advisor/agent thing down here in Texas then you are naive at best. The NCAA is well aware of the process and as far as I can tell, doesnt dispute the way it works. As long as the (agent) has an advisor role and is not getting paid it is perfectly legal as far as the NCAA is concerned. Some (agents) even advise their clients to goto college instead of signing with a pro team.

TRHit, your post is out of line and uncalled for. The childish name calling and regional bigotry is also unbecoming of an adult. If you do not care for Texans, then perhaps you should avoid participating in the Texas board.

I am well aware of the legalities regarding the technical definitions of adviser and agent. So don't try to talk down to me.

And the NCAA (along with coaches and scouts) is well aware of the technicalities as well. No young ballplayer has been put in a precarious position by anything stated on this thread. Period. To state otherwise is simply false.

All the lawyers in the world can spin all the technicalities they wish. And the NCAA can issue the rules. But in reality - PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PHRASE CAREFULLY NCAA technicalities aside - there is little practical difference in the advisor and agent as DP has pointed out.

You can continue the personal attacks as you wish. I will not respond to you again in this thread.
Oh but dalbb -- it is indeed a gossip and rumor mill -- hence the origin of this thread. Rather than berate the regular posters for something innocent, why not spend a few more minutes clarifying the differences between the two (advisors and agents)? After all, everyone is just trying to be helpful, right?

touchin99 -- are the two Mansfield kids going to Jupiter at all? If so, with which team?

I agree with TRhit. This is not a gossip and rumor mill. You did mention agent in your posting and those who don't know better may attempt to expose that.

These two will may be the best 1-2 combo in the state. They will be fun to watch this Spring.

Move on.

Dalbb -- This will may be your 2nd post, so your new, but anyone who would want to expose my saying agent where I should have said advisor is looking a little too hard.

PD -- I did leave the door open a little I didnt say which of the two he was Big Grin

But his screen name gave it away. Sorry, Mansfield kid if I blew your cover it was not on purpose Wink
Been gone for a while. See that the same fun and games are still going on here.

First of all, the intent of an "advisor" is the same as an "agent". Basically like a real estate agent. No one makes any money until something is sold or bought.

Here is what I would recommend for future draft prospects. Advise your "advisor" that he/she will only be getting the piece of the pie that is above the original offer.

Simply stating, if Billy Bob is offered $1,000,000 by the Toronto Blue Jays and negotiations continue which allow for a larger offer at $1,200,000, then your "advisor" should only get a percentage of the 200,000 over the original offer. Billy Bob was gonna get the $1,000,000 with or without an "advisor". Why should some get a piece of what would have already been offered.

In my humble opinion, Wink this "advisor" issue, is another sad situation in amatuer baseball today. A players purpose in this game becomes very distorted quickly by such. It's ashame that the "team" concept in soon to be gone by the time a kid reaches high school.

Do you think that some of the problems today, in the world in general, are due to the circumstances that we put our youth into?

Where are the "advisors" for that?
