I'm looking at the schedule which was just posted for an event my son is taking part in next week. Can someone tell me what "Motion DNA" means? Also, if he's not selected for the Top Prospect game held on the last day does that mean there's no need for him to even be there that day? No criticism intended here but it seems there is a lot of downtime at this event. Has anyone else found that to be true? And finally, if the schedule says that the workouts begin at 10:00 with 60 yard dash, what time should he show up to check in, pay his balance, ect...? Thanks.
CatcherDad,

My son will also be attending an event in a few days. I can help with some of your questions.

1. We received a letter telling us that registration was at 9am. It also had some other details not covered by the schedule on the web site. Perhaps someone in your family got this letter and didn't share it with you?

2. I do (my opinion) believe if a player is not selected for the Top prospect Game that probably means you can check out of the hotel early. Ofcourse when that (top prospect)is excatly known might present a problem to cancel early enough.

3. Downtime, I don't think it's alot of downtime. Remember, this is a "Showcase" not a camp. It is not instructional in nature and its goal is to have scouts etc. assess all the players. That means they (the scouts) need to be assembled together and able to watch at one venue so as to see all that goes on without missing any player performing at any time. Given that constraint and the fact they play a game on one field only so that no players "time to shine is missed by a guy at another field i'd say they are doing a great job of maximizing the time.

4. But what the H..L is motion DNA. Sounds like something from those CSR detective shows Big Grin
As usual the more questions that get answered, the more that come up! On Day 2 my son's team has Motion DNA at 1:30, and then nothing scheduled until their game at 6:00 PM. Should he not show up to the stadium until just before 1:30? And how do the kids usually fill in their time as in this case, between MDNA and their games? I suppose by just watching the other games? Pardon my inexperience! mrmom, do you remember when you received this letter? Should I call and ask them to fax it to me?
This info is taken strainght from the PG website regarding Motion DNA
(FYI....they had Motion DNA at Sunshine East, which my son attended. Tons of rain there and they had to juggle the schedule. My son and I took an early flight home on Sunday, and therefore he couldn't do Motion DNA. Sorry I can't give you more specifics, but it looks pretty hi-tech)

MOTION DNA JOINS PERFECT GAME

Motion DNA Corporation has joined the developmental forces of Perfect Game USA to bring innovative scouting technology to the baseball world. Under the agreement, many professional and collegiate baseball prospects in 2005 and 2006 will receive a new analysis designed specifically to help measure the potential career longevity of a player. Administered by a licensed Motion DNA professional, the test generates two scores for the athlete based upon the data from the player's motion.

The first score, called the Biomechanical Efficiency Rating (BER), compares the players motion DNA patterns to ideal biomechanics. The BER gives the player an indication of potential unnecessary stress that may be absorbed by the player's joints and muscles while running, hitting, or pitching. Based upon the results, the players receive an Injury Risk Score (IRS), which indicates the risk of injury every time the player performs that specific skill. (Example: A pitcher who throws 100 balls a day, and receives an IRS of 46.5 is at risk for injuring his elbow or shoulder almost every other time he throws the ball.

"This is great for baseball," said Frank Fulton, Director of Business Development for Perfect Game USA. "This test is very beneficial to the players. It can reduce a player's need for surgical procedures that are happening way too often, especially to younger athletes."

"This assessment can identify for an athlete early in their career the need to either get stronger in specific areas, or make small changes to their mechanics," added Zig Ziegler, President of Motion DNA. "A lower score does not mean a player is not a good prospect. It is an indication that the player may need more time to recover from high output training and playing days. By knowing they are at risk, a player can quickly work to improve their score because our assessment can tell them exactly what areas they need to work on."

Over the last three years, over 35,000 baseball and softball players have received Motion DNA's analysis. Currently priced between $250 and $500 per test, the assessment should help developing players reach their potential in professional or college sports up to three times faster than the average. With regular Motion DNA testing, development time related to physical skills can be cut to one year or less.

The assessment will help the players and parents understand the true potential of an athlete. It will also give helpful feedback to athletes as they develop and work their muscular movement.

The information obtained from the assessment can help an athlete improve various aspects of their game. Pitchers are able to reduce injuries and increase their ball velocity and accuracy. Hitters are able to increase their power and bat speed at contact.

Motion DNA will begin the assessment program at Perfect Game Events throughout the 2005 season including the Sunshine circuit of showcases, the National Showcase in Atlanta, and various WWBA tournaments beginning June 11th.

Attendees at PG showcases will receive a confidential analysis and corresponding score as part of their scouting package at no additional cost during the event. Athletes may order a full detailed report with recommendations for fixes and improvements from Motion DNA."
Thanks jbb. I just spoke with PG on the phone and they basically said not to worry about it because it had mostly to do with travel schedules and accomodations. Where we are commuting (the event is less than an hour from where we live) they said there was nothing crucial on the sheet that they needed. They told me who email to change my son's profile too. He's actually grown 2 inches and gained 10 pounds since we first filled out his info sheet, yayyyy!
FYI..Motion DNA didn't show up at the Northeast Underclass Showcase this week, the reason was never announced to us. The organizers did say that Motion DNA would be doing their evaluations working off of video tapes. Not sure how they are going to hook electrodes up to kids using video but anyway, it was a disappointment. I'm sure the "video" announcement came to appease those of us who were actually looking forward to seeing what they were all about.
