Avid reader and limited poster with a question:

My 2015 is going to attend his first Perfect Game Academic Showcase in June.  He will also compete in some PG tournaments in Ft. Myers and Marietta in June and July followed by another Showcase in either December or January 2014.

My question is, after he is evaluated in June, will PG continue the evaluation during the tournaments and update his rating or will the early June rating follow him until the next Showcase event in December or January?

I appreciate any and all advice.

Each PG showcase you do has it's own grade on a 1-10 scale.  That grade will remain on your profile, unless you ask to have it removed, I believe.  If you do a 2nd showcase, you will receive another grade and that will also stay with you.  The "rankings" which are different from the grades received from doing an individual showcase, are constantly evaluated as the player plays.  Either during PG tournaments or other high profile events or word of mouth (if the player is high profile enough).  The "rankings" are basically a number from 1 to 500, then top 1000, high follow and follow.  These "rankings" are the ones that may move up and down, the "grade" for a particular showcase will always stay the same for that showcase.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.  My kid is low profile player competing with a higher profile team!

I mixed up the ratings and the grades.  I’m using a high profile 2015 from our area as a guide.  He competed in several summer PG tournaments than participated in the December 2012 PG Showcase.  He has earned a very good grade.

My kid is doing it backwards…Showcase followed by summer tournaments.  I was just wondering if his grade would change if he performed well over the summer despite an adequate grade during the showcase.

Go to the PG site and look for yourself. Look up a player you know and you can see what is posted about him. You will not be able to see everything but get a good idea.

Your son will be evaluated at the showcase and get a grade plus some comments. There will likely be a video made of him pitching or hitting or fielding. These will stay with his profile. After this they will show what tournaments he has entered along with any commentary that comes out of the tournament, such as hitting or pitching performance. He something exemplary happens it will be mentioned. If he is a pitcher then his velocity range will be recorded with some commentary on his pitches.

Don't worry too much about the grades, etc just have him do his best. There is some variability in the numbers and comments but it is a great way for a coach to track his performance as he develops and competes in their events.

Also us parents get all worked up about little comments or something in the profile or comment in the tournament. Relax and just remember it is one tool that is available for coaches to evaluate and track your son's performance. They will be interested in what they see not what is in his profile.

Good Luck!

bballman explained it very well, but just in case you are still wondering...  Your 2015 will get a PG Grade and a Ranking from his June Showcase.  If he does something significantly better in a July PG Tournament than he did in the PG Showcase (something measurable, e.g. FB velo jumped 8 mph), his Ranking might improve but not his PG Grade.  The PG Grade is a snapshot of how he performed at the showcase.  His profile heading will list the best PG Grade he has received from all of his PG Showcases.

When my son attended a PG Showcase last summer it took about 4 weeks to post the grade.
