An excerpt from the article:

“Baseball is a vehicle where we can teach these guys about life,” he (Stout) said. “At the end of the day, God didn’t put you on this earth to hit doubles or to throw 95. At the end of the day, we’re all called to a higher standard, and I want these guys to be great parents, I want them to be great students now, I want them to be great husbands when the time comes. For us, that’s what the Patriots are grounded upon.”

VERY cool!
Very impressive! I've been involved with many baseball organizations surrounding DFW as well as Central Texas, and I have never seen such an outward approach to teaching kids about what's really important in life -- besides the great game of baseball. The neat thing is, Mr. Stout is using baseball as a vehicle to accomplish this. Outstanding!! I would love to see some of the other high profile organizations follow suit and make community outreach and/or charity fundraisers a requirement for their players -- what a great way to prepare kids before they head off to college! Besides requiring $2k, a sub 7 60 time and a velo upwards of 85, teams can toss in 10 hours of volunteer work with special olympics or maybe clean up duty at a local park.
