You'll have to wait for the definitive word from PGStaff of course. In the meantime, I believe that it is the players who would have made the teams that would have played a top prospects game on Monday weather permitting. In past years the showcase didn't necessarily line up with a Monday off so there wasn't any chance of the teams actually playing. I think roughly 30 to 40% of the players end up nominated for the top prospect teams.

It is much harder to make the top prospect list than to make a top prospect team, but being named to a top prospect team is an accomplishment.

I'm assuming you're talking about the CA underclass.
PlankSpanker,

It doesn't suck for those players named to the Top Prospect list. They played exactly the same amount as those not named to the top prospect teams. I would think everyone would prefer making this list, despite the actual additional game being rained out. Everyone got a "shot" and it turned out the best for those who made the list!
The year my son participated in that showcase there wasn't a top prospect game scheduled. I remember that the parents of the players who were named to the top prospect teams were pretty happy about it in any case.

On the other hand, I wouldn't get overly worried if a player wasn't named to one of the top prospect teams. A player from our area wasn't and then went on to make plenty of top prospect lists later on, consistently being rated a 9.5.

Just to be clear: I was in no way insinuating that the event or PG sucked. I purely meant the weather Monday robbed us of a great day of baseball.
We were in Florida for Underclass Three the 9th and 10th of this month. It rained all day Saturday, BP was moved indoors. Nothing else took place that day.
On Sunday record low temperatures around 32, windy but sunny we played one 14 inning game instead of 2 nine innings. Son was not disappointed, neither was I. I believe we have all been in this long enough to know that rain can always be a factor in this game.

You didn't say anything wrong. This should be a place where you are able to convey your thoughts and not have to worry about being politically correct or how it might affect you if somebody who has clout disagrees. I agree- I'd rather have them play a game than be listed as a top prospect.

Finally, it rains and is cold in December and January everywhere in this country. You are taking your chances whether it's a tournament or a showcase. That's just the way it is. That said, it's fun to see how you measure up against quality players and that's what a PG event will do.

The irony is that this is a dead period for division one coaches. If you are using this for college exposure, think twice. If you are doing this as a measuring stick- do it. Playing for the sake of learning to compete is a great thing and every bit as valuable as a list or ranking. In my mind, there are only two rankings (opinions) that mean anything- the college that recruits you and the pro team that drafts you. All of the other stuff is just fun and conjecture and don't mean a lot when it comes right down to it.
