Can anyone comment on the difference between the PG Sunshine Northeast (early June) and the PG Mid Atlantic (late August) showcases? I’m trying to plan for next summer, and figure out which of these events would be more beneficial for my 2015.

I know that the Sunshine is the last chance for an invitation to PG Nationals, but that's not likely to be a factor for 2015.

Another difference I can see from the web site is that the Sunshine had more attendees last year than the Mid Atlantic, and it has quite a few more alumni college commitments listed over the years.

Any other considerations? Better to go at the end of high school season, or after his summer showcase season? Fresher in June, but more experienced in August.

It may not make much difference. The primary objective is to earn a solid grade that he can refer to when corresponding with potential recruiters.

If your primary goal is a referable Perfect Game rating, there are other ways to attain that. Write to PG to see if they will have someone in your area who can provide such a rating, if that is something you may find more convenient.

Not sure what your guy's skill level is given your comment about the PG Nationals invite not likely to be a factor. If he's a stud, then I would agree with sittinondahill that going earlier may allow him to show that talent to people who might want him to get more involved in the national circuit.

But if he's good to average and not likely to stand out, and if you can't get a rating as noted above, then the latter one may be better as his skill level may have improved.

Either way, in my view you don't need a PG rating to be recruited. There are many other ways that have been quoted here ad nauseum. To repeat mine, my view on a Showcase is that its good for a great pitcher or an outstanding hitter to go and strut theirself. Others will most likely be lost in the mix. Both categories might have more success, and spend less money, by targeting the schools they are interested in and figuring out how to get in front of those coaches.

Good luck!

Thank you both for your replies.

2015 (catcher) was graded 7.0 this past summer at an underclass event, and his summer team will go to East Cobb for the 16U Nationals next summer.

I told him that I would send him to another PG showcase next summer if he worked hard over the winter and improved on the areas they identified. So we are hoping to demonstrate a pattern of improvement from year to year.

His PG grades and videos might give him an advantage when it comes to getting a coach’s attention. And he is definitely targeting the schools that he’s interested in, and he’ll use his PG profile in that effort.

I do realize that showcasing isn’t a requirement. For us it’s just part of the whole package. He enjoys the events (as do mom and dad) and they do help motivate him to work hard. I’ve never looked at baseball expenses as an investment that will pay back in scholarship dollars. However, I do look at it as an investment in him as a person, and I’m glad that I can afford to give him the opportunity.
M.A.D. if your son is interested in any level of college ball ,the sunshine showcase is the one you want to go to. The level of talent at this showcase will quickly show you and your son where he fits in the talent pool and what he needs to work on and what he is good at.The interaction your son will experience with these kids in it self will make him a better ballplayer and will answer his internal questions as to weather he can compete at the next level.Plus its a blast to is these kids do what they love in front of people that love to see it!!!!!!!!

Good luck!
