My son got invited to the PG Sunshine South Showcase in Austin, TX. June 9-10. He is 6"3 almost, plays CF, pitches, is fast, 16 yr. old Sophomore playing on a 5A TX. team that isn't very good. Cost is $549. Is this a must that you don't even give it a second thought and just automatically go? Need some input as to pros and cons. He pitches in mid to high 80's.

43momma,

Your son sounds like a very good candidate for a PG showcase, and summer after sophomore year is a good time to go to your first one. My son who is now a junior in college attended a PG event in early spring of his junior year, and we wished that he had gone earlier. It gave us an idea of the level of college program that might be a match for him. But also it helped him understand what he needed to work on, and that was something he really would have benefited from earlier.

For your son, it doesn't sound like he needs so much to learn what to work on, but instead the value would be in making sure that colleges and scouts learn about your son and then watch him over the next year or so.

Good luck!

My son also received invite to South Underclass Showcase in Austin. He is incoming Soph who had great freshman year in a tough district. Started varsity and received all district first team honors. Just wondering if it is worth spending the money($595.00)for this showcase at this point. Play summer ball on well known select team. School is small and will not get much exposure there. Just curious what other more experienced minds think? Did not know if need to try to get him on radar somewhere yet.
