Sometimes I think some people think every players parents on here is going to play college baseball. this is a HS baseball web, college camps can just be a learning experience. Not everyone gets to go to area code games or aflac all american, some boys are just avg. players. And they should exp. whatever they want to , to enhance their baseball in any way.

Fanofgame - Thanks for helping me to keep things in perspective as to what my interpretation the HSBBW was intended for. I do think sometimes we become more about "what's next" vs. what's happening now at our little slice of heaven website.

While it’s great fun and informative to talk about the recruiting process or pro vs. college items, I think we sometimes forget that there is so much more that this website offers about baseball, be it player or parent. Heck, I got most of my Xmas gift ideas last year in the Ladies forum.

I happened to stumble into the coach’s forum the other day and saw a thread about funneling the ball. To be honest I wasn't sure what the thread title was referring to. Confused After reading post from some very intelligent "baseball people" I realized I was witnessing the HSBBW at its best. Great information, techniques, philosophies and general give and take about how a few coaches teach the game. Now I haven’t stopped back for a few days so I hope that thread hasn’t turned nasty too. To me it was probably the best use of this forum I have seen in years. Kudos to the participants of that thread, I will make sure jerseyson2 reads your posts.

Kudos also to all that post here without personal agenda's or malice towards others. I enjoy a heated discussion as much as the next guy but sometimes I think I am watching an argument between a bunch of 1st graders (just using bigger words), not people that love the game and want to help each other to get even more out of their baseball experience. Personally I am getting tired of the “I’m right, you’re wrong” vibe that I pick up around this time of year on the HSBBW. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing but so is the golden rule… “Treat others as you want to be treated”.

I’ll get off my soap box now and wish you all a very happy and safe holiday season. With that being said it's not a bad time to drop a donation on Julie, we have been burning up a lot of server space lately. Smile

Great post jerseydad!!!
Thanks JD. When I first found this site I spent hours in the coaches forum talking baseball with other coaches and parents. Fielding techniques , hitting , baserunning. I had so much fun just talking baseball. After a couple of months I saw some threads in the general section and I ended up getting caught up in some heated discussions about coaches , daddy ball etc etc.

The other day I stumbled across the thread on fielding and I suddenly remembered why I kept coming back to this site. To learn and to share. To talk baseball and to do it with other people that enjoy the game as much as I do. I think we all need to remember that the only time we actually get anything of anything is when we learn when we listen and when we share.

Great post JD
Right on jerseydad. Sometimes I think the kids have a way better perspective than us parents. Mine is just starting HS so no sense in looking too far forward. I also found the funneling discussion very interesting and was actually trying to go through the motions to try to understand what was being taught. My wife thought it was a little weird.
great post Jersey dad,

And your right there are many people who have lots of great thnigs to share on this site. To the avg. HS player who is fighting to make a HS team , to the posters who have kids in the pros. We need all of you , we need us moms to add their opinions, we have a great site here and I too get tired of the back and forth . I dont mind good discussions, and even disagreements , Ive learned from them but sometimes it gets so far away from original thread and its serving no purpose to anyone at that point.
It's hard not to get caught up in the "what's next?" philosophy in baseball. We all want our sons to keep progressing, and that's why I originally logged onto HSBBW. To learn about training methods, colleges, and the recruiting process.

My greatest hope this Christmas for the parents of younger players is that you enjoy the journey and not the destination. Every player eventually stops playing. What did you do to enjoy it in the meantime? So yea, if you can afford it send your kid to a Christmas camp or drop a few hundred bucks on a showcase.. even if your kid is probably not going to play in college. But go with him and enjoy the experience together. Merry Christmas, everyone.
