My son is interested in playing at a school that is not too far from home (Mid-Atlantic), and he is a high-achieving student. He wants to attend a college with great academics, but not so high-level that he doesn't have the time to devote to both academics and baseball. Would he be better off choosing the PG Academic showcase or a regional one? Thanks in advance for any advice

From my experience, I'd do both:

PG regional (though I don't know what that's like in your area) is a must for getting an eval. that many sorts of schools will look at and trust. Not just the top tier academics, and that's what you want, even if your kid is a high achiever in school. In the current admissions environment, you don't want every school to be "highly selective."

HeadFirst Academic. In the way that PG is king of "talent showcases", I believe HF has them beat in the academic showcase arena. The general talent level present can be more varied than at PG, which tends to have a greater selection of elite players and fewer "plain old good players." What is amazing is the number of great schools that attend HF (and I agree that VA is a very good one) and the calibre of the event can't be beat. First rate.
