Did anyone notice the rankings of youth travel teams:

PGCrosschecker

I would think teams who are highly ranked would give their players an advantage of being followed by college coaches and pro scouts at tournaments, but then again, I would think the reason they are highly ranked is because of the players they have on the team.

I think these ratings are unusual in that they seem to be in part based upon collecting individual ratings of players into a team rating. Probably the Perfect Game organization is the only one with the database to effectively rank teams in that way.

The advantage is that it is possible to compare two teams that have never played each other or perhaps even common opponents, assuming that the rosters are accurate. It does perhaps overrank the "elite" teams, because they are the ones that take part in JO's or WWBA, etc. tournaments. Their players are the ones who have exposure.

I think that this is the most objective, and likely most accurate, way to rank teams. I doubt the world actually needs team rankings, but it's fun.
