I'm curious if they'll eliminate their Cedar Rapids operation or what impact it will have here in Iowa? We didn't use PG as much as we should have, but it's always sad to lose a thriving business in the state, if that's what is going to happen.
Hutto is also home to Astro's AAA affiliate, formerly Texas Rangers. Austin area is the place to be!
There are tons of large well kept complexes and highschool fields within 10-30 miles of Hutto. Plenty of overflow space for large tournaments. I think they made a good choice. And Austin is finishing construction work on their AirPort. Turning out really nice. Plus it is only a couple hours drive from me.
The Hill Country part of Texas is beautiful, lots of tourism. Lakes, resorts, ranches. It’s an oven in the summer.
That was my first thought.....man, the WWBA in Atlanta in July is brutal for us "northerners" with temps in the 90's and high humidity. I think it was only a matter of time until PG bailed on Lakepoint, just to many issues and tough to plan a year or two in advance with the financial problems. If it's me, I'd much rather have seen them build in Iowa though it's April 19th here in the Midwest and it's 42 and raining The thing with Austin is that they will be able to start much earlier for 14U (non-HS) teams if they want to....and also have nicer weather in the fall than they would have had had they built in Iowa.
With regard to that....wasn't there already talk of a new, bigger complex with multiple fields being built in Cedar Rapids? Was that a PG facility....or is someone else doing it? Wonder if that will still happen now that PG is heading South
My understanding is that this may be the last summer for the WWBA at Lakepoint, at least. That doesn't necessarily mean it'll leave the Atlanta area, but the Lakepoint Chapter 11 situation is forcing the issue.
I definitely won't miss dealing with the Lakepoint Housing Service.

To be determined, I guess.

"Service" is not a word I would use for the arrangement.
Perfectgameusa instagram page has a cool video of what the complex will look like.
This is going to be a great facility! I hope they play night lighted games in the summer. I was always confused by why there were not more night games in the heat. These kiddos are high schoolers, it's not like they want to be in bed by 9.
