Does anyone know how PG decides who to accept when they receive an invite request? Never done this before but now that we have I am wondering.
Also, I tried to do some research here but most of it is pretty old. How is Baseball Factory? My son has a teammate who is doing this but we are skeptical. Found some not so favorable info about it, and some favorable. It seems it would be expensive to send him out west to play on a team.

Thankyou for the responses. Not sure what you mean by "truly invite only". It just says "request an invite", it says nothing about being open. I'm speaking specifically of the 2011 Sunshine Showcase, if that helps. I did read all the info about the Showcase. I was just wondering what the acceptance is based upon, if anyone knew? We've never done this before but son was interested in BF based on what teammate said, but as I said we're skeptical. I thought PG would be a much better option, if we are able to do it.

Yea, I was just wondering does it mean anything to get an invite and what does it mean if you don't? Was hoping someone had some sort of idea about it. Will wait and see what happens. Even if he gets the invite I have to make sure he can actually make it since that is early summer ball season. I think that would be a good time being its the beginning of the summer.

Most of PG's showcases are open, and a player interested may "request an invite", and one will be sent unless the event is full.

Other events, such as the World Showcase, PG National Showcase, Pre Draft Showcase are events that I believe require a certain level of known accomplishment in order to receive an invitation to.
It means PG knows who you are. You are in the PG database. It does not mean the player is automatically a top prospect. It does mean that the possibility exists because your name appears on the PG follow list in the database. The request an invite is for people we are not familiar with.

The follow list contains players who have been to past PG events or tournaments. It contains players that PG scouts have seen at various other events. It contains players turned in by reliable sources. But anyone can get in the database by sending us information about themselves. That allows us to check out that player. With lots of people in pretty much every area of the country, it’s not very difficult to get opinions.

If a player doesn’t receive an invite, it doesn’t mean he is or he isn’t a prospect. It just means he is not yet in the PG follow database. It won’t hurt him a bit, but it won’t help him either. Every year there are some players who end up at DI’s or even a couple who are drafted that we never heard of.

So is it a mass mailing. Yes, to an extent, but it is mass mailed to those on the PG list. Can a player ask for an invitation? Yes, but we will do some research. Sometimes this can take longer than other times. Sometimes one phone call is all we need. Sometimes, we suggest a different event.

Some are very “open” and we take it for granted that only serious players would want to attend. A bad player is a bad player both before and after he is seen by PG. Best to be a good player before showing up. Most players we see are next level college players. We see very few that lack that ability.

The strict invite only events are different. Depending on the event, we might invite only a very few players we know are extremely talented. The best example would be the PG National where only the very top draft prospects and highest level DI prospects we know of receive an invitation.

The best way to check out the system is to ask around to other players on your team. Ask if they have received an invite. If they have, then you are playing on a very talented team. There are some teams like that, but not many.

Going to showcases is not always the answer. Going to the right showcase and showing your ability is what counts. I’m very proud of what Perfect Game does, but I’m not proud of being part of the showcase industry. There are still some good people involved, but there are some problem areas.

Thank you floridafan and PG for your repsonses! PG I appreciate the time you took to write that post, and you and floridafan both answered my question. My son has never been to a PG event/tournament or showcase so I don't think he'd be anywhere in their database. Son seemed very interested in the BF tryouts based on speaking with a teammate, but I don't believe it's a possibility. Mainly being the expense, but not only for that reason. He has summer and hs teammates that are on PG's site either from a showcase or a tournament they participated in. Sons exposure has been fairly limited and we are coming into the summer between jr and sr year. He did do some college coaches clinics in the winter and got some great feedback. He is still in touch with a college coach who has an interest in him has invited him to a jr day as well. He still wants to get more exposure. If he goes to the PG showcase it will be in addtion to hs,summer ball and summer tournaments.
