One of the most important Perfect Game events is being held here in my hometown this week - the National Showcase at the Metrodome.

I heard a report of one of the 2010 players throwing 97-98 mph today, which was the first day of the National. I'm looking forward to watching some of the events this weekend - it was amazing last year.

Who else will be there? Which teams are your sons on?

And ... any reports from those who were there today?

caeflash,

Sorry, I was at the Metrodome all afternoon and evening, just got back an hour ago.

There are three games left on Sunday morning, starting at 8:30 a.m. Here's the schedule:

That is for the main National Showcase, for the top 2010 grads. But there is also a smaller showcase, for some of the best 2011 prospects, Sunday afternoon/evening and Monday, also at the Metrodome.

It doesn't cost anything to get in. Very interesting to see this caliber of players all in one place!

The top pitching velocity I saw today was 98 mph and I was told by a reliable source that the same pitcher hit 99 mph yesterday. He was a little tired today at only 98! Eek

ANYONE CARE TO GUESS THE FASTEST 60-YD DASH TIME???

HINT: UNBELIEVABLE!

3up-3down,

"Julie,
The fastest sixty time...6.11 would be my guess.
I got some inside info"

Yes, I was sitting in the 3rd row directly above the timer displays when he ran 6.11. Amazing! Watching him run, it almost seemed like a slightly fast-forward speed video.

"Not much to scream about unless you're the hitter."

I was watching a hitter from WI face the 98-mph pitcher, and a couple of pitches were high and inside. That looked a bit scary since (being from Minnesota) I can't imagine a HS player from WI faces a whole lot of 98-mph fastballs! But the WI kid seemed to be doing fine, fouling off a couple of pitches and actually getting a 4-ball count though there were no walks issued in this format. He eventually went down swinging, as did the other two batters I saw against this pitcher.

sportsfan5,

"MN-Mom, How do you get around in that city? Everywhere I turned, there was another road construction project..."

Yeah, I noticed that when I drove down to the Metrodome. It is usually easier to get around. We do have a saying here in Minnesota that we have two seasons: Winter and Road Construction. But honestly the road closings downtown were very unusual.

Sorry about that! I hope your son had a good time!

Julie
