Son and I are having a debate about the "" symbol. What is the true definition of that symbol?

I believe that is for someone that was ranked previously and moved up in the new rankings.
"New" is someone that is brand new to the rankings.
That is my understanding

That's what we thought, but that's not the case. Both state and nationally, his ranking dropped a bit, but he has those arrows next to his name.
Has to mean something else, just don't know what.
FWIW, PG notes in legend that up arrow (and other symbols) only applies to national rankings, and not state.

His national ranking has the red arrow symbol, went from X to X+18. Has to be something else.
joemktg,
The up arrow denotes a player moving up in the rankings. It is possible that your son was accidentally tagged as moving up. The other possibility is that your son actually did move up since the last update. Not sure how many know that the rankings change constantly, sometimes a couple times or more in a week. Then once every so often, we do a large update about every other n month or so. It is possible that others moved ahead of your son between the major updates and then he moved up from there.
So it was either a mistake that he has the arrow next to his rank or he did actually move up from the last update. If you care to email me I can check it for you. jerry@perfectgame.org
Thanks PGStaff. Just sent you an email.
