I am fairly new to this website and these forums. What a tremedouse resource I wish I would have discovered when my son was much younger! I am looking for guidance/opinions. My son is a senior and yet unsigned to a DI schools but has multiple offers from Jucos, NAIA, etc. He has been invited to the PG World Showcase in January and has been selected as a Baseball Factory Under Armour Pre-Season All American and they play in Arizona in January too. Several D1 schools are presently talking to him. Any thoughts on which tournament would help him the most? I know college coaches cannot attend but both advertise 25 to 30 pro scouts. I've heard the PG World Showcase is a pretty big deal? At the same time he will be presented an All-American Jersey in Arizona. What to do? I'd prefer to choose one.

MidwestM, Under Armour is a factory for an "All-American" title. Looks good on a resume, but everyone in the scouting world knows it's pretty meaningless. We had two kids named "All-American" by Under Armour from our town in Washington.. while they totally skipped over the six kids that were drafted. The reason? They didn't pay the fee.

If your son has pro talent, the PG World Showcase is a big one. My son did it a few years back and let me tell you, there were a TON of pro scouts. If you think he has a chance to be drafted out of h.s., do this event. The difference between PG and Under Armour is night and day.. PG is hands-down the way to go. While Under Armour might have a handful of bird-dog scouts at the PG World Showcase they'll have SCOUTING DIRECTORS. A big difference.

IMHO a kid should not do the World Showcase unless there is a probability or realistic possibility he may be drafted out of high school. This does not mean he should not attend if he really wants to play college baseball. Exposure to professional scouts is always worth it given realistic expectations.
