momandcpa,
My son has been to the PG showcases at Baylor the last two years (Underclass before soph., Top Prospect last year) He's really enjoyed them and I think gotten some attention from them-it sure hasn't been his HS or the summer teams he's played on! Last year he had several "names" on his team and it's been fun to follow them this year. There were, if I remember correctly, around 18 scouts/coaches that we could easily identify, could have been more that just weren't as obvious!
It's alot of money for a little time on the field-although last year there were only a couple rising jrs. and the rising srs. seemed to get more time as expected. We've planned on going again this year, although now his team has an out of town tournament that week so we're not sure what we're going to do!

My son just got back from the Perfect Game National Showcase in Fayatteville, AR this past weekend. He had never been to any kind of showcase at all much less a Perfect Game Showcase. In fact he did not even know he was going to this one until the Monday before the event when they called me asking me if I would let him go.

To sum up the experience I was very impressed with the showcase and the way it was run. My son was nervous having never pitched in front of 50 radar guns at one time but I think he did real good - especially considering it was his first one.

Anyway I was impressed with the showcase. My only question would be if he should go to the one in July at Baylor after having already attended the one in Fayatteville? I think there is a conflict with the AABC Regional Tournament anyway.

BTW - the new grass at the Arkansas stadium was really nice. Last time I was there they had the old "Astro" turf. Hard hit ground balls went all the way to the fence. The field and stadium looked really good.
Here is another way to look at it: If my son is going to get the exposure to the schools he is interested in without going to these showcases, what do I do? Well, I realize a majority of scholarship players get "books", maybe $500 a semester, if that. So, I have to decide if I want to spend that $500 many times at these showcases if he can get the exposure less expensively. Also, if I save that $500 many times, won't this help pay for more than books when he gets that "books" offer? In my case, he can get the exposure for the school he wants without the expense.

But, everyone has to determine what is best for their situation... or if their son has even narrowed his choice to a few schools yet. My son has never been to a showcase that cost money and he has interest/offers from DI schools. He has already made a decision, but chose to go the Juco route for a few years. He is very happy with his choice.
