What is a quiet period?
During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

Presuming he is a 2016, it is going to depend on your son's recruiting situation, target schools and activity level. In my mind, it does not make sense if your 2016 son is uncommitted and has more promising face to face prospects attending another prospect camp (on campus) where he has developed a relationship with that recruiting coach....most likely a D3 coach at this point in the recruiting cycle.
Top prospects (as the name of the showcase implies) is probably more targeted toward D1 and D2 talent and 2016s are probably already committed in most cases. So, your question about making sense for a 2016 is a good one.
