PG is running a Top Prospect Showcase Aug 27-28 weekend. As I understand, that falls in the NCAA "quiet period".

Does attending the showcase that weekend make sense? Are D1 coaches even allowed to be there? Or is that more for the D2/D3 schools where that restriction does not apply? Not sure.  Or is that all about a player getting his numbers posted/updated in the PG database?

Thanks

What is a quiet period?

During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus.  A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

Presuming he is a 2016, it is going to depend on your son's recruiting situation, target schools and activity level.    In my mind, it does not make sense if your 2016 son is uncommitted and has more promising face to face prospects attending another prospect camp (on campus) where he has developed a relationship with that  recruiting coach....most likely a D3 coach at this point in the recruiting cycle.

Top prospects (as the name of the showcase implies) is probably more targeted toward D1 and D2 talent and 2016s are probably already committed in most cases.    So, your question about making sense for a 2016 is a good one.

Thanks as always Fenwaysouth....

Son is a 2017 ....the choice I guess is to (1) a college camp hosted by a school that has shown interest, although that limits the weekend to one (possibly a couple attending) school, or (2) attend a PG Top Prospect Showcase that weekend of Aug 27-28. Just note sure if it makes sense to go to PG if coaches are not allowed to watch players "compete" - assuming a showcase is a "competition".

How does this quiet period affect 2017s attending d3 prospect camp?

No Recruiting Calendar for D3 baseball. No quiet or dead periods.

The last weekend in August is the first weekend many students are back on campus.  I know at son's school, the coaches will be having a at least a short meeting with the new 2016s (freshman) that just arrived a few days before.  I guess coaches could travel to a showcase if it were nearby, but my guess they enjoy the quiet period so they don't HAVE to travel after a long recruiting summer.

PHANATIC2008WS, if your son has Division I ability, D1 coaches will be able to get plenty of feedback about him from the PG crew that will be working the showcase.  If your son's ability level is more appropriate to that of D2, or if he's willing to consider going to JUCO for a year or two to develop his game and then go to D1, then it may be worth your while to attend the showcase.
