PG WWBA World Championship 18U Oct.26-30

I have heard that there are tons of scouts at this event. I hear it is the event to attend if you can only go to one.

Yes, most Texas colleges will be there.
It's a great recruiting tool!

Having been part of the event for a number of years now, I can persoanlly tell you that you will never see so many college coaches (JUCO, Division I, II , III) and proscouts in place at the same time.

In addition the level of baseball being played is a joy to observe

That's where I met websters TRHit & BigWI, too.
Area Code & Team One folks, BA folks & a number of other writers.
You & son will be amazed at the number of recruiters, scouts, etc.

Any hotel recommendations?

I saw your son throw against the Tigers and was VERY impressed with his poise, command and mound presence. His pick off move was pretty good as well!

My son will also be participating. Although it may be a little early in attending this event. I thought it might be good experience in providing a measuring stick for him and his "game". I've told him there's no pressure just to enjoy the experience and give it his best effort. As for mom and dad, we're looking at it as a vacation and we get to watch the kid play some ball.

I was wondering if you all could post teams your sons are on and who they are, if you want.

Well, this is really kinda complicated. Because the travel team that our son played with lost three out of four in Cedar Rapids. We decided to sign him up as a individual and take our chances on him playing with a PG team. Since he never made an appearence in any of the games in Cedar Rapids(we're still not sure why). Well thats not true... we know why, we just won't go there. Playing on a PG team we think will allow him an opportunity to showcase his skills.
All I wanted for him was to have the opportunity ... the rest is up to him. I'm sure he will rise to the occasion...his effort has always been top notch.

My son will be playing with the Dirtbags. #33 Jeff May catcher 08 class. My wife Rhonda will be going with him. If any of you get the chance please stop by and say hello to her. I will be playing with College Select (TRHit) in Jupiter, LHP #6

My son, Justin Hunt, will also be playing for the College Select team in Jupiter. He's an '08 3B/Catcher. My husband and I will be there to cheer them on.

So tell me experts. Where are the best restaurants, watering holes, and adolescent hangouts that families should be aware of. We're actually coming in a day early, so we want to check out a a few places you might list.
By the way a few people have told me that there are various baseball vendors who show their wares down there . Is that true? like who, what and where?

I thought the Jupiter event was for '07 players and the '08's were earlier this month in Ft. Myers. Did the young men mentioned earlier in this thread also go to Ft. Myers? I thought it was one or the other. Any info on PG rules concerning this? One or two '08's allowed per roster or something like that. Anybody??

Dear old Dad- Some of the players that were in Ft. Myers will also be in Jupiter with their respective teams. There is no age restriction that PG puts on, it is an "18 and under" tournament. The rosters are up on www.worldwoodbat.com (and then click the link to the tournament)

My son went to the underclass tournament in Ft. Myers last year with a Perfect Game team. He wanted to go this year as well (his Junior year) but ended up not going because of homecoming weekend. Instead he played at home that weekend on his PG fall League. He is an '08 and this will be his first time at the Jupiter tournament. It's my understanding that age of players chosen is at the discretion of the coaches. I could be wrong, maybe there are more specific rules regarding age but I thought it was coaches discretion.

My son went to his first WWBA under class as a sophomore (15) playing up on 17U, then 2 weeks later "guested" with another team for the 18U WWBA in Jupiter. the following summer, his select team went to both during the summer & one in fall. Rained most of the time in fall due to the hurricanes, so they cancelled out the 18U. Son & most of the team had already made verbals to colleges by the Oct Underclass event...
Best places for the guys was the beach!!! We made a couple trips down...mind you, it gets (damp) chilly after the sun goes doewn. In Jupiter, we stayed at PG resort...wonderful & great little Italian restaurant. Veal was excellent, but I could only afford it once... 'cause I ate burgerking the rest of the time!!

Imagine having all the travel plans in place, and your son sustains a pretty bad injury.

I am sad, disappointed that we have to cancel the family vacation that is wrapped around this event.



It can be tough being a parent of an athlete.

I see where PG has started putting up the rosters of the teams attending. Some pretty impressive rosters on a few of the teams..ABD Bulldogs, Ohio Warhawks, Eastcobb Astros, Reds Scout Team, SE Florida Bandits to name a few. Should be an awesome tournament as long as the hurricanes stay away!!!

illinirock- the SF Bandits team has a lot of my friends. Good luck to any team who has to face their pitching staff.

J H not to show any disrespect to the SF Bandits, but have you looked at the rosters of some of the teams mentioned? They are stacked with the best 07 players in the country. JMO, but I would bet one or two of the teams mentioned are in the finals depending on the brackets.

illinirock- I didn't say anything about any other team. Teams like East Cobb, Midland, CF Renegades, Florida Bombers will most likely be the ones in the championship rounds. But the Bandits have four quality arms that are easliy in excess of 90 mph. They're top gun is Matt Harvey from Conn., who I believe is ranked #6 in the nation by PG and is in the mid-90's. They won the NE BCS Regional and were excellent at last weekend's underclass event in Ft. Myers. Hopefully the competition will be even better than that for everyone's sake, because IMO there aren't many teams that can beat that sort of pitching staff (minus the above mentioned teams), or at least I haven't seen them

There will be 80+ teams in this event , all with excellent baseball talent.

A lot depends on the draw in the pools as to goes where

I'm going. I coach the Midwest Blazers Scout team.

I'm excited to see how our group of young men does down there. We added some talent to a team that lost 6-5 in the championship of the Kernels tournament against the Blacksox club.

We should be pretty competitive down there.
